After much fear for the first washout in IPL 2026 due to consistent rain in Guwahati, the RR vs CSK toss took place just five minutes later than the scheduled time.
On his first outing as a full-time IPL captain, Riyan Parag won the toss at his actual home and asked Ruturaj Gaikwad and his boys to bat first.
Notably, it will be the first IPL 2026 match for both CSK and RR, as Match 3 of the ongoing edition is all set to get underway at the scheduled time.

Riyan Parag, RR Captain: "We are bowling first. There's been a lot of rain around. It is a red soil surface. There will be some moisture, and we want to exploit it.
[On leading RR] It feels nice. It feels overwhelming. i have been with the franchise for 8 years old now. The support has been incredible. All my peers are very supportive and helpful.
[Goal this season] I think the goal is to win the championship. In the auction, what we tried to do was get smart cricketers. When we get such wickets or flat tracks in Mumbai or green tracks in Kolkata, we can adapt.
[Who are the 4 overseas players?] Our four overseas players are Nandre, Jofra, Donovan and Shimron Hetmyer."
Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK Captain: "Well, it was a no-brainer to bowl first. The wicket has been under covers for a long time. Bit overcast conditions so would have loved to bowl first, but happy to bat.
Well, I mean it was not something we decided during the cycle. You saw how last year went for us. We looked at the best options available to us, and that's the thought process behind it.
Our overseas players are Noor, Jamie Overton, Matt Short and Matt Henry."
Last season, CSK had a horrible IPL campaign. With only four wins in 14 attempts, the five-time champions finished at the bottom of the points table.
RR, on the other hand, had four victories in 14 matches as well, although they finished a place above than CSK due to a better net run rate.
Therefore, it is safe to say that both sides will get off to a winning start after dismal show altogether in IPL 2025.
