Just when IPL vs PSL became the subject of discussion due to the same window schedule, a superstar player from the Rajasthan Royals joined a Pakistan Super League team.
Not only that, the member who will now be joining the PSL team, Quetta Gladiators, for the ongoing edition played an important role during his stint at RR for the IPL.
Rajasthan Royals were the inaugural IPL champions under the leadership of the great Shane Warne. The member who was equally brilliant alongside Warne during that season was the member who will now be part of the PSL.
Sohail Tanvir Becomes Quetta Gladiators Bowling Coach
Sohail Tanvir, who was the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2008, having got 22 wickets across 11 matches with an average of just above 12, will be sitting in the Quetta Gladiators dugout. Tanvir will replace Wahab Riaz, who was previously appointed as their bowling coach for PSL 2026.
Tanvir will join the Quetta Gladiators camp on March 31.
The reason behind Tanvir replacing Wahab was the latter’s designation for Pakistan women’s cricket team. Wahab is currently taking the role of Pakistan women’s mentor.

The PCB does not want to have an individual holding responsibilities for both club and country, and therefore, Wahab had to step down, alongside Sarfaraz Ahmed.
Sarfaraz, meanwhile, currently works as a member of the PCB selection committee, and also holds the position of Pakistan men's cricket team’s head coach for Tests.
Sohail Tanvir's Record In IPL
Left-arm quick Tanvir was superb for Rajasthan Royals during his stint in the IPL. Taking 22 wickets across 11 matches was not a joke, and Tanvir made it with ease, with an economy rate of just 6.46.
While Warne took 19 wickets in 15 matches in the same season, Tanvir played four matches fewer than the Rajasthan Royals captain to top the wicket-takers chart in IPL 2008.
Notably, Tanvir’s best bowling figures of 6/14 came against Chennai Super Kings. It was the best IPL bowling record for a while until Alzarri Joseph claimed 6/12 for Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2019.
Unfortunately, due to geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, no Pakistani players have participated in the IPL since the first edition. In the process, Tanvir's IPL tenure ended as a short yet sweet.
Only Azhar Mahmood, who later became a British citizen, took part in the IPL from Pakistan.
Quetta Gladiators PSL 2026 Journey So Far
Led by Saud Shakeel, Quetta Gladiators have played two matches in PSL 2026 so far. They began the season with a 14-run defeat to Karachi Kings, but followed it with a comprehensive 40-run victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen.
Quetta Gladiators will next play on Thursday, April 2. Their next PSL opposition will be Islamabad United, and the fixture will take place at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
