Punjab Kings’ wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh was once again the centre of attention in the ongoing IPL 2026 as he pulled off an MS Dhoni-level move against the Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday night.

In the most important match of the season for PBKS, captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and put the Rishabh Pant-led LSG to bat first. Playing the do-or-die game, PBKS got off to a great start with two early wickets before Ayush Badoni went all guns blazing.

In the sort of touch the batter was in, Prabhsimran Singh had to do something extraordinary to send the batter back to the pavilion, which eventually reminded everyone of MS Dhoni’s glove-work.

The incident happened right after the powerplay at the 6.4 over mark as Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a quicker delivery outside off. Ayush Badoni tried to cut it through the backward point region but completely missed it, and Prabhsimran Singh dislodged the bails.

The on-field umpires went to the third umpire, and Badoni, who had not edged the ball, incidentally lost his concentration and lifted the back leg for a millisecond. Prabhsimran made the most out of it, and despite being the only one interested in the appeal, he was able to send Badoni back for 43 off 18 to end the 49(23) partnership.

This dismissal also reminded everyone of the famous Sabbir Rahman stumping from the T20 World Cup 2016, where Suresh Raina bowled a wide down the leg, and MS Dhoni made the stumping with his super-quick reflexes. While chasing 147, Rahman was looking dangerous with his 26(15) on the night.

Prabhsimran Singh’s admiration for MS Dhoni

Like many other wicketkeepers across the country, Prabhsimran Singh also grew up watching MS Dhoni keep the wickets for India. In a recent interview with PBKS’ social media team, he had ranked MS Dhoni as the second-best wicketkeeper after Adam Gilchrist in a blind ranking. Notably, he also said that they are interchangeably the top-2 for him.

The other keepers in the list were Mark Boucher, Jos Buttler and Kumar Sangakkara. The following was his ranking.

1. Adam Gilchrist

2. MS Dhoni

3. Kumar Sangakkara

4. Mark Boucher

5. Jos Buttler.

PBKS’ season hangs by a thread

As PBKS is playing LSG in their last group stage match, they find themselves out of the top-4 for the first time in the season due to the 6 consecutive losses.

Despite being the league leaders for the majority of the tournament, PBKS have 13 points in 13 matches, making this a do-or-die fixture. To qualify for the playoffs, they must win against the Super Giants and will want the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals to win tomorrow.

If RR lose and the Kolkata Knight Riders win, the fourth spot will be decided on net run rate, and if RR wins, they will go through regardless of tonight’s result. As things stand, LSG are 134/4 in 14 overs.
