All eyes were on the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday evening as Pakistan took on Australia for the ODI series decider days after Australia squared the series in Lahore with a 41-run win.

However, all the excitement turned into concern after the batting powerplay in the first innings. Pakistan all-rounder and opener Maaz Sadaqat found himself in an unfortunate incident while fielding, which required immediate medical attention.

Concussion scare for Maaz Sadaqat

The incident happened at the 15.5-over mark while Australia was batting. As captain Josh Inglis hit Salman Agha over the covers for a four, Maaz Sadaqat was in the thick of things, chasing the ball all the way towards the boundary.

While the ball raced away to the fence, in a last-ditch effort, Maaz Sadaqat rolled over on the boundary line to save the ball from hitting the boundary rope.

The attempt did not go as planned, but Sadaqat went over the rope and hit his head onto the ground. Carrying his momentum after chasing the ball, Sadaqat immediately hit his face to the digital advertising board outside the boundary.

The medical team was quick to respond, and he received instant treatment on the ground.

Pakistan looks to seal ODI series vs Australia.

Having lost to Bangladesh in both ODI and Test series over the last couple of months, Pakistan players were on the firing line among the fans. But this series against Australia came to their rescue after the Aussies rested their key players to manage the workload, and a Josh Inglis-led young team took them on for the three ODIs.

On debut in the first ODI, Arafat Minhas was all over Australia to bundle them for 200 runs with 5/32 (10) as they chased the target in just 42.3 overs.

Despite the Aussies levelling the series in Lahore, Pakistan bounced back once again and dominating the visitors in the first innings. At the end of 35 overs, Australia are 138/8, and Matthew Kuhnemann and Adam Zampa are trying to salvage some runs to defend.

Maaz Sadaqat likely to bat during run-chase

Moments after receiving medical attention, Maaz Sadaqat was seen back on the field against Australia, moving freely. The early signs indicate he should be good to go in the run-chase, and there are no concerns over concussion.

So far in the series, he has only managed to score 8 runs in the first match. In the second ODI, he scored a duck and bowled a spell of 0/7 in his two overs of left-arm orthodox bowling. So, if he comes in to bat, he will look to come back unbeaten and chase a rather low score to win the series.

Despite his failures this series, he is touted among the best young white-ball talents in the country, with 338 runs in 16 PSL matches, striking at 175.12. He has also done well in the opportunities with Pakistan A in recent times.
