Pakistan players are quite renowned for their wicket-taking celebration. From Shaheen Afridi’s eagle-like pose to Hasan Ali’s arm-thrust celebration, the ‘Men in Green’ players rarely skip a beat to mark a breakthrough in style.

Even ace Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed has manufactured a cheeky celebration of his own, one that enraged Team India fans back in early 2025 during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Notably, Abrar’s celebration has now been imitated by his teammate and legendary Pakistan batter Babar Azam.

Babar Azam imitates Abrar Ahmed in PAK vs AUS

Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed picked up the all-important Australian wicket of opening batter Matthew Short in the eighth over of the innings. The cricketer sent down a back-of-a-length delivery, before Short mistimed the ball and chipped it straight towards the bowler.

Ahmed completed the catch as the visitors slipped to 46-2 inside the first 10 overs of the game.

As one can expect, Abrar Ahmed was soon mobbed by his Pakistan teammates, including legendary batter Babar Azam. The senior pro even mimicked Abrar’s cheeky send-off celebration as the Australian batter was making his way to the dugout.

When Abrar Ahmed enraged India fans with his celebration

Babar Azam's imitation of Abrar Ahmed's send-off gesture drew much attention online because the celebration had previously sparked controversy during Pakistan's clash against India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Back in February 23 during match five of the tournament at the Dubai International Stadium last year, Abrar knocked over a well-set Shubman Gill with a carrom ball-esque delivery. Gill, however, had already scored 46 off 52 balls with seven cracking boundaries to take India past the 100-run mark.

While Team India eventually won the match with a comfortable six-wicket margin in 42.3 overs, the Pakistani spinner garnered much criticism online, especially from Indian cricket fans. Moreover, even legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram lambasted him for his unsporting gesture.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam likely mimicked the spinner in a light-hearted manner, as he performed the gesture while celebrating with his teammates rather than directing it towards the outgoing Australian batter.

Pakistan tower over Australia in second ODI

With a 1-0 lead in the pocket, Pakistan bowlers continue to torment the visiting Australians in the second ODI of their three-match series.

Winning the toss and opting field first, Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi responded to his own call by taking the huge wicket of Australian opener Alex Carey in the first ball of the match.

Shortly after Abrar deceived Matthew Short, in-form Arafat Minhas also dismissed senior batter Marnus Labuschagne for just five as the visitors slipped to 51-3 in 10.4 overs.

Captain Josh Inglis and all-rounder Cameron Green struck fighting half-centuries in the middle over, while Matt Renshaw made 43 at a run-a-ball. Arafat and Abrar added a wicket each to their tally after their opening breakthroughs as Australia reached 198-6 with five overs remaining in the innings.
