It is often said that catches win matches in the game of cricket, and it has always been the same since the inception of the sport. Batters can score a plethora of runs, and bowlers can take wickets, but if the fielders are not supporting them, teams fail to win crucial matches.
This was the case in the PSL 2026 match between Karachi Kings and RawalPINDIZ. Mohammad Amir, the Pindi franchise player, was the culprit in the high-octane clash as he dropped Karachi Kings’ biggest match-winner and, as a result, his team lost the match.
Amir is not known for his fielding skills, but in the PSL match between the Kings and the Pindiz, Amir needed to hold onto the catch to dismiss the dangerous Azam Khan, but he failed to do so.
Amir shell-shocked after dropping Azam Khan
The incident occurred in the 15th over of the Karachi Kings’ innings, when the side needed 53 off 30 balls, and Azam Khan was batting at 36 off 22 balls. He was struggling to time the ball, and it looked as if the Pindiz would run away with the contest.
This is when Amir became the villain of his team as Daryl Mitchell delivered a short ball and Azam Khan miscued his attempted pull-shot. The batter was hurried by the delivery as the ball lobbed in the air and Amir had an easy chance to grab the ball at short fine leg.
However, the fielder made a mess of the catch as he put in a dive, but spilled an easy chance. A frustrated Amir was left shell-shocked, as he knew he had dropped the game for the RawalPINDIZ.

The former Pakistan cricketer didn’t even get up after spilling the catch as he knew about the consequences.
Azam Khan clinches victory from jaws of defeat
Chasing a tricky 198, Karachi Kings’ openers, David Warner and Muhammad Waseem, gave a fiery start as the duo added a quick-fire 27 runs before Waseem was dismissed. Warner slammed 50 off 36 balls, but when he was sent back, the team was left in a precarious situation.
Moreover, Azam Khan was struggling to time the ball as the RawalPINDIZ had the game in the palm of their hands. However, that dropped catch from Ami changed the course of the match as the batter unleashed beast mode and slammed 38 more runs, in just 12 deliveries to steal the win in the last over.
The middle-order batter scored 74 runs, with a strike rate of 217 as the Kings won the game in the last over, all thanks to Amir’s costly drop.

When Amir hailed Azam Khan as the most talented Pakistan player
Recently, Mohammad Amir’s interview has gone viral, wherein he hailed Azam Khan as the most talented player in Pakistan at the moment. His predictions eventually came true as the explosive batter took his side past the winning line, almost single-handedly.
Amir may not be wrong about Azam Khan, as the Pakistan batter has all the talent in the world, and as a result, he was fast-tracked in the Pakistan squad. However, he is yet to fully justify his skills as the right-handed batter is currently out of the team, despite boasting an abundance of talent.
