Bangladesh missed the T20 World Cup 2026 due to unavoidable reasons, but the New Zealand all-rounder, Glenn Phillips, didn’t miss the chance to recall the memories of the Bangladesh cricket team for the fans.
The incident occurred during the Super-8 game between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday. Notably, the Blackcaps defeated Sri Lanka by 61 runs, eliminating them from the tournament.
Glenn Phillips' mimics Bangladesh cricketers with an unexpected Celebration
Returning to Glenn Phillips, he did a kind of celebration that attracted the eyeballs as soon as the video went viral on social media. On the last ball of the 15th over, Mitchell Santner bowled an ‘outside the off stump’ to Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis.
Mendis played a shot towards the cow corner, where Glenn Phillips was positioned, and the latter comfortably completed a brilliant catch to give another blow to Sri Lanka. After completing his catch, Phillips celebrated it with ‘Nagin Dance’, the celebration which is usually seen in the games between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to roast each other.
With his ‘Nagin Dance’ celebration, Phillips recalled the ‘Bangladesh cricket team’ memories for Sri Lankan fans, who were watching the match in the stadium. The video of this moment has also gone viral on social media as soon it was shared by an Instagram user.

New Zealand eye semi-final spot after crushing Sri Lanka
After the massive win against Sri Lanka in their second Super-8 game, the Blackcaps are now placed in second spot in the Group 2 points table. They now have the highest net run rate (3.050) among all the teams in Group 2.
The Kiwis have three points to their name in the points tally, including the rain-ruined first Super-8 game against Pakistan. Mitchell Santner and Co. will now aim to beat England in their last Super-8 clash to become the second team to qualify for the semi-finals from Group 2.
Notably, the Three Lions have already qualified for the semi-finals after two consecutive wins in their first two Super-8 games against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, respectively.
Looking at New Zealand’s journey in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, they have been in a decent run of form except for a seven-wicket defeat against South Africa in the group stage. The Kiwis made it to the Super-8, with three wins in the group round.
