Mumbai Indians spilled one of the easiest opportunities they could have gotten on the field, doing so against the KKR in match 65 of the IPL 2026 season. The incident occurred during the tenth over of the innings, when Mumbai Indians fielders Deepak Chahar and Robin Minz had an astonishing mix-up near the boundary rope during the KKR run chase.

With both Chahar and Minz expecting each other to catch Rovman Powell’s top-edge on the deep-backward square leg boundary, the opportunity hilariously went begging at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The moment even prompted team captain Hardik Pandya to hide his face in shame as a well-set Powell received a timely reprieve in KKR’s must-win game.

Notably, the hilarious fielding blunder by the two Mumbai Indians cricketers also mirrored the famous ‘Saeed Ajmal and Shoaib Malik’ fielding moment for the Pakistan team from over a decade ago.

Deepak Chahar and Robin Minz recreate classic Pakistan fielding

During the tenth over of the KKR innings, Rovman Powell top-edged Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya high up in the air towards the deep-backward square leg boundary. Deepak Chahar charged towards the ball from fine leg, while his teammate Robin Minz came sprinting in from square leg.

However, with both fielders converging, the two stopped at the last moment expecting each other to catch the ball. As one can expect, the ball fell right between them as the two cricketers cluelessly looked at each other.

When Saeed Ajmal and Shoaib Malik dropped an easy catch

Much like Deepak Chahar and Robin Minz, former Pakistan internationals Saeed Ajmal and Shoaib Malik also infamously let a straightforward catching opportunity slip between them after a mix-up.

Their incident occurred during an ODI match against the West Indies in the UAE back in 2008, and the viral clip has since become a staple in YouTube cricket blooper compilations.

KKR beat Mumbai Indians to keep playoff ambition alive

Mumbai Indians batted first and charted 147-8 in 20 overs. Corbin Bosch clubbed 32* off just 18 to top-score in the innings. Tottering at 41-4 early in the game, Tilak Varma composed 20 runs from 32 balls to record one of the slowest innings in IPL history. Captain Hardik Pandya also chipped in with 26 at a near run-a-ball.

For the KKR, Saurabh Dubey and Cameron Green picked up two wickets each inside the powerplay overs. Kartik Tyagi also picked two, while ace spinner Sunil Narine conceded just 13 runs off his four-over spell.

In response, the hosts cruised to a comprehensive four-wicket win in just 18.5 overs, with Manish Pandey anchoring the chase through his 45-run knock. The outcome marked KKR’s sixth win this IPL 2026 season, as the Ajinkya Rahane-led side still remain in contention for a possible top four finish.
