In the ongoing 3rd T20I between India and New Zealand, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma went all guns blazing as the duo stitched a 133-run stand for the opening wicket. For the first time in this series, Sooryavanshi was asked to open the innings, and he nearly missed out on a fifty.

As mentioned above, India went all guns blazing and shattered their record for most runs within the powerplay in T20Is. Sooryavanshi slammed 45 (19) and was denied his first SENA fifty following a stunning catch by Daryl Mitchell.

Daryl Mitchell Takes A Blinder To Dismiss Sooryavanshi

On the 1st ball of the 8th over, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi looked to keep the momentum going and eyed a six to complete his fifty. However, he mistimed the shot off FIsher’s bowling, and the ball went straight up in the air.

Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell, who was standing deep, ran quickly and took a tumbling catch to dismiss Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The Kiwi batter was exasperated by his efforts and threw the ball in frustration. Meanwhile, the 15-year-old was disappointed to miss out on a well-deserving fifty.

Notably, Sooryavanshi, who is yet to play a solitary game in India, slammed four sixes and four fours and batted with a strike-rate of 236.84. Had he scored a fifty, he would have become the youngest player to do so in New Zealand.

Meanwhile, nothing is going wrong for Daryl Mitchell, who was the pick of the batters for the Blackcaps. Mitchell scored an unbeaten 89 (52), which featured five fours and five sixes.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Seizes Opportunity in Ishan Kishan's Absence

Getting runs under the belt was important for Sooryavanshi because he has been behind Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson in the pecking order. The southpaw sat on the bench for entire West Indies series and only got the opportunity after Ishan Kishan's injury.

Notably, Ishan suffered a groin strain which ruled him out of the 2nd and 3rd T20I. It allowed Sooryavanshi to get a place in the playing XI. Earlier, he was asked to bat at No.3 in 2nd T20I, where he scored just 4 runs.

However, his performance in 3rd T20I will pose a happy headache to the selectors and management.
