Abhishek Sharma made the crowd go wild at Wellington. He came pretty close to levelling his own record for the fastest T20I century. During his blitz, the explosive opener scored a hundred off 33 balls, tonking seven boundaries and 11 biggies.

Team India is making a mockery of the 199-run chase, with the young guns going mad. Abhishek and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi broke unthinkable records during their 137-run partnership for the opening wicket, which lasted for just 7.1 overs.

Abhishek Sharma equals Suryakumar's record with 35-ball 100

Abhishek Sharma joined Suryakumar Yadav, who has four centuries in the format. Now, just Rohit Sharma, with five T20I centuries, is ahead of Suryakumar and Abhishek for India.

After playing 151 innings, Rohit Sharma had five T20I tons, while Suryakumar scored four in 107 innings. Notably, in just 69 innings, the left-handed opener already has four T20I hundreds to his name.

Most T20I centuries for India

  • 5 - Rohit Sharma
  • 4 - Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek Sharma*
  • 3 - Sanju Samson
  • 2 - KL Rahul, Tilak Varma

In terms of fastest centuries across the globe, he levelled David Miller and Rohit Sharma, scoring the third-fastest ton among full-member nation players.

Interestingly, Abhishek holds the record for the quickest century in the shortest format for a full-member nation player. Overall, in T20I cricket, no one has slammed a T20I century quicker than Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan.

Moreover, he has gone past Virat Kohli's tally of 10 centuries, scoring his eleventh ton in T20 cricket during the IND vs NZ 3rd T20I.

Abhishek Sharma completes 150 T20I sixes as he tonks 11 biggies

Among all the other records, Abhishek Sharma also completed 150 sixes during his extravaganza at Wellington. As he slammed 11 biggies, the swashbuckler has 158 maximums in T20I cricket.

He sits behind Rohit Sharma (205 sixes) and Suryakumar Yadav (179) for most T20 maximums for India. Meanwhile, he is currently fifth on the overall list among full-member nation players.

Nevertheless, thanks to Abhishek’s power-packed 113, India cruised past New Zealand’s target of 199 runs in just 13.2 overs by six wickets with plenty to spare. They have won the series, with two games pending in the five-match series.
