Days ahead of Bangladesh's Test series opener against West Indies, the hosts find themselves in trouble after Mushfiqur Rahim left the training with injury in the lead up to the game. The veteran batter is a nailed-on starter in the playing XI, and a potential absence will leave a massive gap in their batting.

The Test series is also a part of the World Test Championship, where Bangladesh have been climbing up the table this year after wins against Pakistan and Australia. Currently, they are in the top-4, over the former finalists, India and also England.

Mushfiqur Rahim in doubt for 1st Test vs West Indies

Following a draw against Afghanistan in UAE, Bangladesh are looking to get into Test groove, as they host the West Indies in Mirpur from October 28. Their talisman, Mushiqur Rahim; however, got hit on his hand during the training session and was given immediate medical assistance.

Rahim was given the ice at the training session but evenutally he had to cut his preparations short and left the field. As of now, there is no official word on the extent of the injury, as we wait for further reports.

Bangladesh eye strong end to WTC cycle

Contrary to all the expectations, Bangladesh is the highest-ranked Asian team on the World Test Championship 2025-27 table. They are at number 4 with 3 wins and 1 draw in 6 matches, with a home series against West Indies coming up, followed by their tour to South Africa.

While their WTC future also depends on how three teams above them perform, they are very much alive in the race to the final. If they go undefeated in their final four matches, they can further go up the table and make the race to the final interesting.

Mushfiqur Rahim will also play a crucial part to help them end their campaign strong. Right now, he is 43 runs away from becoming the first Bangladesh batter to score 7000 Test runs, while also closing in on average of 40 in the format — his participation against West Indies could help him achieve both milestones.
