An opportunity went begging for Pakistan’s legendary batter Babar Azam. Batting on 86* at the start of Day 3 against West Indies in the series-deciding second Test, the cricketer managed to add just two runs to his overnight score at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
In a desperate attempt to steal a single against West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican, the seasoned batter got run out by Brandon King owing to Abdullah Shafique’s reluctance at the non-striker end.
Babar Azam to wait on as Test century dream crashed by Brandon King
Pakistan captain Babar Azam, batting at number four, reached 86* by stumps on Day 2 as the visitors raced to 266-2 in 66 overs. Finding himself just 14 runs shy of a welcome Test century, the cricketer started off Day 3 on a cautious note.
It took him 30 minutes to add just two runs to his overnight score, before desperately attempting to steal a single in the 75th over of the innings. Punching West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican towards the off side, Babar took off for a run and came halfway down the track before getting sent back by well-set centurion Abdullah Shafique.
A direct hit from Brandon King ensured that the Pakistani skipper fell short of his crease, as he made his way back to the sheds for 88 off 147 balls with 10 boundaries and a six.

When was the last time Babar Azam scored a Test century
It has been over three-and-a-half years since Babar Azam scored his last Test century. His previous hundred-plus score occurred against New Zealand at Karachi’s National Bank Cricket Stadium way back in December 2022.
At the time, the legendary right-hander composed 161 runs to mark one of his magnum opus performances, doing so in a high-scoring drawn Test.
Had Babar completed a century against the West Indies on Day 3 of the second Test in August 2026, the innings would have marked his tenth Test ton, and only his fourth away from home. Moreover, the seasoned pro also lost an opportunity of charting only his second Test century outside Asia.
It is worth noting that since September 2023, the cricketer has listed just one international century, doing so against Sri Lanka in a home ODI back in November 2025 last year.
Pakistan loses momentum after Babar Azam’s run out
Resuming the innings on Day 3 at a commanding 266-2 in pursuit of West Indies’ 344, the visitors have now slipped to 285-5. Shortly after the untimely dismissal of Babar Azam, Pakistan also lost Awais Zafar and Agha Salman to lose three wickets in the space of just three overs.
It is worth noting that Babar also felt some discomfort after falling short of his crease. However, he eventually got up and walked back to the Pakistani dugout a few moments later.
