Playing his 100th T20I match, Arshdeep Singh brought out his inner Lionel Messi on Thursday when India and New Zealand were up against each other for the first match of the five-match series at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. At the receiving end, it was Bevon Jacobs, who was batting tremendously on 31 off 16 deliveries.
More significantly, the moment in which Arshdeep got the breakthrough with his supreme football skills was crucial, as both Jacobs and Glenn Phillips sent Indian bowlers from left to right before the wicket came out of nowhere and restricted the run flow.
Arshdeep Singh Uses Left Foot To Run Out Bevon Jacobs
After Shreyas Iyer won the toss and asked New Zealand to bat first, Arshdeep came to bowl his last over of the day before the beginning of 18th over of the innings.
The third delivery of the over was a yorker, which Phillips could only jam onto his feet. Jacobs saw an opportunity for a quick single, and Phillips agreed to it for a run.
However, Arshdeep nonchalantly used his left foot to break the stumps, and the replay showed Jacobs, despite a big dive, had to return to the pavilion.
The main issue behind Jacob’s wicket was his bat was on the air when the wickets broke.

Arshdeep Ends With 1/45 In IND vs NZ 1st T20I
However, Arshdeep, India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is, did not have a great outing with the ball in hand. His record-extending tally now stands at 146 wickets after 100 matches, courtesy of picking up 1/45 in IND vs NZ 1st T20I.
Arshdeep’s only wicket on Thursday was of Daryl Mitchell. He took the wicket of Mitchell when the latter was batting on 28 off 19 balls. Comeback man Bhuvneshwar Kumar made no mistake while grabbing a simple catch.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel are way behind Arshdeep in India’s leading wicket-taker chart for T20Is. While Bumrah has 126 wickets in the format, Axar has 114 wickets, same as Hardik Pandya’s.
