Bangladesh are set to host the West Indies for a two-match Test series starting on October 28. The first Test will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Test series, while Mominul Haque is focusing on his bowling to provide Bangladesh with an additional option in the longer format.

Mominul Haque Focuses On Bowling In Training

Mominul Haque and Shadman Islam have been training under Bangladesh Cricket Board High Performance Unit head coach Mohammad Salahuddin as they prepare for the upcoming two Test matches against West Indies.

While Shadman focused on his batting, Mominul spent a considerable amount of time bowling to the Test opener. The left-arm spinner has taken 11 Test wickets in his career and is now working to become a more effective option with the ball.

"He (Mominul) knows how to bowl, and if he can bowl few overs in the middle, it can be really helpful for the team," a member of the Bangladesh team management told Cricbuzz.

Mominul's bowling could ease the workload of Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, giving both spinners valuable rest. With Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto's encouragement, he aims to become a reliable bowling option.

When Did Mominul Haque Last Bowl In A Test?

Mominul Haque bowled one over in Bangladesh's recently drawn Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi. However, his last notable bowling performance came in 2023, when he claimed 3/4 against New Zealand in the first innings at Sylhet.

Already an integral part of Bangladesh's Test setup with the bat, Mominul has scored 5,265 runs at an average of 37.60. If he can contribute regularly with the ball, it would give Bangladesh another valuable option in the longer format.

With a busy Test calendar ahead, Bangladesh will face the West Indies before touring South Africa and hosting England. Mominul's improved bowling could provide a valuable boost to their World Test Championship campaign.
