The Indian fans finally got a chance to witness Bhuvneshwar Kumar in white-ball cricket as the seamer was included in India’s playing XI for the first T20I on Thursday. However, in his second over, the right-arm pacer bowled a no-ball, and it ended his long-standing streak.

Before the first T20I, Bhuvneshwar had never bowled a no-ball in T20Is. In fact, he owned the record for the most balls bowled by an Indian in T20Is without a no-ball (1797 balls).

Bhuvneshwar Kumar's no-ball streak finally ends

The Indian pacer made his T20I debut in 2012, and it is a remarkable feat that for such a long period, he didn’t overstep a single time in his T20I bowling career.

After India elected to bowl first, Shreyas Iyer gave the first over to Bhuvneshwar, who bowled a quiet over and was right on the money. However, after 14 years, the streak ended in his second over, when he overstepped on the first delivery.

The batter was given a free hit, and the 36-year-old conceded a boundary as the Kiwi batters eventually targeted him in his second over.

Most Overs Bowled by a Bowler Without Bowling a No-Ball in T20Is:

320.2 - Adil Rashid (England)

299.3 - Bhuvneshwar Kumar (India)*

299.1 - Shadab Khan (Pakistan)

250.2 - George Dockrell (Ireland)

238.2 - Saeed Ajmal (Pakistan)

Interestingly, Bhuvneshwar was the only fast bowler in the list who had not bowled a single no-ball in T20Is, and even that streak ended on Thursday.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar back in the Indian team after 4 years

The right-arm pacer was out of favour for the last 4 years, but two back-to-back outstanding IPL seasons helped him regain a place in the Indian team.

In the 2025 season for RCB, he bagged 17 wickets in 14 matches and was pivotal for the team as they secured their maiden IPL title. In the subsequent season, Bhuvneshwar played an even bigger role as he bagged 28 wickets in just 16 matches as RCB retained the championship.

With Jasprit Bumrah injured and the Indian pace attack going for plenty against the West Indies, the management made a bold call, and the forgotten pacer was picked for the New Zealand T20Is, and he played his comeback match on Thursday.
