Cricket Australia (CA) on Thursday (October 22) suspended veteran fast bowler Megan Schutt for failing to comply with requirements regarding the use of prescription medication. Schutt, aged 33, will serve a two-match suspension for violating the rule.

She will miss Australia’s third and final T20I against New Zealand, to be held at North Sydney Oval, as well as the WBBL 2026 fixture between Adelaide Strikers vs Melbourne Stars, slated for October 31.

For those who are unaware, Schutt plays for Adelaide Strikers.

Cricket Australia Clarifies Megan Schutt’s Medication Breach Amid Suspension

Cricket Australia issued a statement regarding the Megan Schutt’s medication breach. At the same time, they said it was only a mistake and that they would continue to support her.

"The breach was a failure to adhere to requirements under the Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines with regard to prescription medication. This relates to a single incidence which occurred while out of competition and was not for performance enhancing purposes," a Cricket Australia statement read.

"We will continue to provide appropriate support to Megan and reinforce the standards and responsibilities expected of everyone representing our game," it added.

Schutt Accepts Her Mistake

Later, Schutt admitted it was a mistake and accepted the punishment CA handed down.

"I fully accept the penalty handed down and apologise for failing to meet the standards expected of me. I'm sorry for the attention this has caused and appreciate the support I've received, Schutt's statement read.

"While this occurred out of competition and was not performance related, I understand that I am responsible for following the Sports Science and Sports Medicine Guidelines, which players receive regular education on, and I should have adhered to these guidelines," she added.

One of the integral members of Australia’s unprecedented success in women’s cricket, Schutt has won five World Cups as a player. These included two ODI World Cups (2013 and 2022) and three T20I World Cups (2018, 2020, 2023).

In the Women’s ODIs, only Ellyse Perry (167) and Cathryn Fitzpatrick (180) have more wickets than Schutt (158).
