Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad broke down in tears on live television after discovering that his name was not included in the PSL 2026 auction list.
The emotional moment, which occurred during the show “Haarna Mana Hai,” quickly went viral on social media.
Ahmed Shehzad gets emotional after being ignored
During the program, Shehzad struggled to hold back his emotions as he spoke about missing out on the auction. Notably, a total of 879 players were registered for the PSL 2026 auction; however, his name was absent from the list.
While fighting back tears, he said, “My nine-year-old son wanted me to play.”

It is important to note that this is not the first time Shehzad has faced disappointment regarding the PSL. Back in 2023, he announced his retirement from the league, accusing all six franchises of deliberately excluding him from the competition.
At that time, he released an official statement explaining his position and expressing his frustration.
Ahmed Shehzad alleges deliberate snub
In his statement, Shehzad said that he had consistently worked hard in domestic cricket over the previous few years and had delivered solid performances, particularly in the National T20 Cup before the PSL draft.
Nevertheless, he claimed that franchises preferred players with inferior statistics over him. Furthermore, he suggested that the exclusion seemed pre-planned and questioned who was responsible for ensuring top domestic performers were included in the PSL.
However, Ahmed Shehzad clarified that his retirement from the PSL did not mean he was stepping away from cricket entirely. Instead, he hinted at exploring opportunities with other franchises and continuing his professional career elsewhere.
Ahmed Shehzad’s PSL career record
The 32-year-old last featured in the PSL in 2020, representing Quetta Gladiators. Importantly, he was part of the squad that won the PSL title in 2019.
However, his 2020 campaign did not go as planned, as he managed only 61 runs in seven innings. Overall, Shehzad has scored 1,077 runs in 45 PSL matches at a strike rate of 120.06.
Meanwhile, the PSL 2026 auction took place on Wednesday, February 11, marking the league’s first-ever player auction format. This year, the existing six teams were joined by two new franchises, Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen and Sialkot Stallionz, expanding the competition.
Rawalpindi secured the most expensive signing of the auction, acquiring Naseem Shah for Rs86.5 million. Similarly, Islamabad United made a strong start by signing Faheem Ashraf for Rs85 million after an intense bidding war. They further strengthened their squad with Mark Chapman, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, and Max Bryant.
Karachi Kings made headlines by signing David Warner for Rs79 million, while Lahore Qalandars re-acquired Haris Rauf and Fakhar Zaman to reinforce their core. In addition, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Hyderabad Houston Kings, and Sialkot Stallionz all made significant signings to bolster their squads.
As confirmed by PCB, the PSL 2026 season is scheduled to begin on March 26 and will conclude on May 3.
