Indian legend Virat Kohli was once again on fire as RCB took on GT in the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kohli, who has retired from T20 cricket since the 2024 T20 World Cup, was at his prime throughout IPL 2026, as he ended up being RCB’s top run scorer in IPL 2026.

The Indian veteran once again displayed why there’s no substitute for experience as Virat Kohli ended up scoring his 68th half-century in IPL history, with his fastest ever in the history of IPL coming in this match vs Gujarat Titans.
Although RCB won the final in 18 Overs, it was by no means a smooth sail for the defending champions in the 2nd half of the IPL 2026 final. Opener Venkatesh Iyer struggled with his hamstring from the 1st over itself. Although he provided a solid base with Virat Kohli, he couldn’t convert it into a big knock.

Ever since Mohammed Siraj took Venkatesh Iyer’s wicket, there came a flurry of wickets, with Virat Kohli stranded at the other end. Rashid Khan proved to be the difference-maker as he scalped 2 big wickets in one over.
First, he got RCB captain Rajat Patidar caught out at Long On off Kagiso Rabada. Then, Rashid struck Krunal Pandya on his pads right in front of the wicket.
Virat Kohli kept tottering at the other end, as Tim David walked out to bat. The Australian giant played a supporting role but couldn’t stay until the end, scoring 24 runs off 19 balls. Kohli, meanwhile, brought up his half-century but struggled to keep up with Ahmedabad’s heat.
Kohli Struggles To Keep Up With Ahmedabad’s Heat
In a rare sight, King Kohli was seen struggling as he ran between the wickets and had to call the physio on multiple occasions. This got all the RCB fans worried as the target was still there to be achieved. Virat Kohli’s injury worried Indian fans too, as the Indian legend is set to take the field in 14 days’ time for the 1st ODI vs Afghanistan on June 13.
As Virat and RCB crawled towards the remaining runs, tensions rose among fans as to what will be Kohli’s and RCB’s fate. Jitesh Sharma then came in and settled a lot of nerves with a boundary on just his 2nd ball of the innings.
As the fans waited in anticipation for any update on Virat Kohli’s injury, the Indian legend himself revealed his status to the RCB dugout. In one of the interactions with the RCB dugout while receiving treatment, Kohli calmed the nerves, saying, It’s nothing major but cramps.

RCB Create History Led By Rajat Patidar
After the win, RCB have become only the 4th IPL team to have multiple IPL trophies alongside CSK, MI, and KKR. Captain Rajat Patidar has also joined an elite list of captains, joining stalwarts MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in winning back-to-back IPL titles.
As RCB fans rejoice in their team’s dominant display of IPL 2026, one eye will always be lingering on Virat Kohli’s future as the 2027 World Cup comes much closer. With limited ODIs on the schedule before the primary ICC event, it will be interesting to see how the veteran maintains his fitness levels.
