Virat Kohli has been at the top of his form in IPL 2026. With scores of 69, 28, and 32, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter has crossed an average of over 70 in this season already.

In the RCB vs MI clash in IPL 2026 on April 12, a rare incident occurred, though. Kohli, known for his wide experience in international and domestic cricket for almost a decade, ruined two DRS opportunities for his team with foolish calls.

Virat Kohli's decision-making was, in fact, analysed and dissected on air too by commentators, as such schoolboy mistakes from him was not expected.

Virat Kohli 2.0 in IPL 2026

Kohli's season so far has been going strong. The multiple record-holder in Indian Premier League has made a shift in his batting technique with a more aggressive approach from the very beginning.

Initially, he used to play with a much more balanced approach. However, IPL 2026 has seen Kohli 2.0. In the RCB vs MI clash, Kohli had the same intent as he struck with his might alongside his partner Phil Salt to rack up 71 runs inside the powerplay.

Later, the mammoth partnership between the duo helped Bengaluru cross the 100-run mark inside 10 overs after they came to bat first. However, the flashy performance from Kohli was overshadowed when the RCB great made foolish mistakes, trying to save his face.

What mistake did Virat Kohli do in RCB vs MI clash?

As Mitchell Santner was bowling to Kohli in the ninth over, the penultimate ball saw a fuller-length delivery wide outside the off-stump.

As the ball was tossed up, it went slower through the air, and Kohli, judging it to be wide, left the ball alone. However, to his surprise, the on-field umpire didn't signal a wide. Baffled by the decision, Kohli was visibly stoked and went for the third umpire.

In the replays, some part of the ball was inside the wide guideline, and hence, as per the IPL rule, it was not actually a wide delivery.

The third umpire signalled that the on-field umpire should uphold his decision of not giving it a wide, which ultimately highlighted Kohli's schoolboy error, as RCB burnt a review because of his call.

Virat Kohli burns all DRS calls for RCB

Later, in the 15th over, as Hardik Pandya was bowling to Kohli, Virat again burnt another review for RCB, leaving them DRS-less. As Pandya bowled a 127 kph delivery that angled down leg and went over the left shoulder of Kohli, the batter took another review for a wide.

As the replays rolled, Kumar Dharmasena, the TV umpire, signalled it as a fair delivery, with the ball passing at a height of only 1.5 metres, while Virat Kohli’s head height is 1.82 metres. This cost RCB both their reviews for the cricketer's error in judgement.

Kohli topples multiple records for RCB

Although Kohli was criticised for the reviews, the RCB veteran completed his 1,000 runs against the Mumbai Indians. He became the first-ever player to complete the feat against MI, as he went past KL Rahul, Andre Russell, and Shikhar Dhawan to reach the landmark.

Meanwhile, Phil Salt and Virat Kohli's partnership lit up the Wankhede Stadium, as the duo posted one of the fastest-ever 50-run team totals from just 4.2 overs, with the powerplay score of 71 also being one of the highest powerplay scores in the RCB vs MI IPL 2026 clash.

With records toppling, Bengaluru, currently third on the points table, aim to climb up the ranks as the defending champions are fighting with might to display their red-hot form.
