Virat Kohli means business, and this has been the story for over a decade now. Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians were at the receiving end on Sunday during the MI vs RCB IPL 2026 match at Wankhede Stadium, as Kohli became the first-ever player to achieve a significant record against five-time IPL champions.

After Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and asked RCB to bat first, Kohli, as usual, came to open the innings alongside Phil Salt. Soon after, he set a record that no one had ever achieved vs MI.

Virat Kohli Completes 1000 Runs Vs Mumbai Indians

On Sunday evening, Kohli became the first-ever player to complete the 1000-run feat against Mumbai Indians in T20s (not only IPL). He went past KL Rahul, who had 977 runs against the Rohit Sharma-starred side.

Shikhar Dhawan is third on the chart, having made 901 runs.

Even at the age of 37, Virat Kohli has been going strong, playing for RCB as well as for India in ODIs. He showed glimpses of his good old days already in IPL 2026, and in front of Rohit Sharma, that too in their own backyard, he proved to the world that he is not done yet.

Kohli’s favourite IPL team still remains Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a franchise against which he enjoyed tallying 1,174 runs. This is the highest run by Kohli against a single IPL franchise.

While Kohli plays at his usual radical pace, Phil Salt turned into beast mode against Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians. Riding on them, RCB posted one of the fastest ever 50-run team totals in their previous meetings.

Salt, meanwhile, is batting on 78* off 35 balls, which had six sixes and as many fours. Kohli, on the other hand, is on 35* off 25 balls.
