Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) played one of the IPL thrillers in Guwahati on Friday. As the home team thrashed the defending champions, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ravi Bishnoi stole the show over the Virat Kohli-famed RCB.

Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel made the mockery of the chase of 202 runs, getting home in just 18 overs. Despite having runs on the board, RCB bowlers feel flat against the Rajasthan top order.

The 15-year-old wonderboy continued his purple patch in this IPL 2026, as he went berserk against Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Abhinandan Singh. He slammed a 15-ball half-century before returning with 78 runs off just 26 balls. Although he missed out on his second IPL ton, Sooryavanshi ensured Rajasthan’s victory inside the first 10 overs.

Later, RR lost three wickets in a jiffy, but Jurel (81) and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the ship with an unbeaten partnership of 68 runs.

Ravi Bishnoi makes Virat Kohli achieve rare milestone

Although Sooryavanshi and Jurel are considered the heroes of the win, it was Ravi Bishnoi’s breathtaking spell that set the game in the first innings.

The leg-spinner has added a whole new tangent to the RR bowling. Against RCB, Bishnoi bagged figures of 2/32 in his four overs, including the wickets of the big fish Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya.

Kohli started off exquisitely against RR, hitting seven boundaries inside the first four overs. However, his stay came to an end on 32 as the wily leggie had the big wicket. Bishnoi tossed up a googly and went through Kohli’s gates to bowl him out.

As Kohli got bowled, it became a rare moment. However, the legendary batter was dismissed in such a manner after 1089 days in the IPL, after last being bowled in IPL 2023 by CSK’s Akash Singh. Overall, he has been dismissed 40 times in the IPL.

The Ravi Bishnoi factor for RR in IPL 2026

Rajasthan Royals went big in the mini-auctions ahead of the IPL 2026, acquiring a leg-spinner with a calibre like Ravi Bishnoi's, and they did so by buying him for INR 7.2 crore. Bishnoi’s introduction was vital for the Royals, especially after Yuzvendra Chahal moved to Punjab.

Interestingly, the 25-year-old spinner has already taken 9 wickets in 4 innings and currently holds the Purple Cap.

Bishnoi has established himself as a formidable spin partner to Ravindra Jadeja. The rest of RR's bowling lineup includes a strong pace attack featuring Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, Sandeep Sharma, and Tushar Despande.

RR's dream top three in IPL 2026

After the Sanju Samson trade to CSK, it seemed the Rajasthan Royals would struggle with their batting, with no experience at the top. Although the Yashasvi Jaiswal-Vaibhav Sooryavanshi did show what they can do last season, the RR openers have turned on a whole new destructive mode in IPL 2026.

Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi are undoubtedly the most explosive opening pair of the season, with the two attackers complementing each other. Together, they have slammed 668 runs in 11 innings at an average of 60.72 with seven fifty-plus stands.

Dhruv Jurel, who is batting at three in IPL 2026, has been a stabiliser of all sorts, playing a calm role. He has hit 176 runs in IPL 2026, holding the third position in the Orange Cap race after Sooryavanshi (200 runs) and Jaiswal (183).

Nevertheless, with the victory over RCB, the Riyan Parag-led team has won all their four matches in the IPL 2026. It is only the third time that RR have achieved it.
