While cricket fans are still eagerly waiting for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to make his India debut, the youngster’s popular nickname, “Boss Baby,” has now been claimed by another Indian cricketer.

Former India batter Ajay Jadeja believes that the title truly belongs to Abhishek Sharma, praising the left-handed opener for maintaining his fearless approach ever since making his international debut.

Notably, Jadeja’s comments came after another explosive innings from Abhishek during the first T20I against Harry Brook-led England on Wednesday.

Abhishek Sharma Light Up Durham With A Blazing Fifty

Batting first in Durham, India posted 189/7 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks largely to Abhishek Sharma’s breathtaking knock of 59 off just 24 balls.

Captain Shreyas Iyer also played an important role with a composed half-century as the duo steadied the innings after India lost early wickets.

During his outstanding innings, the 25-year-old also achieved a major milestone by becoming the fastest batter from a Full Member nation to complete 100 sixes in T20Is.

However, despite India’s strong batting performance, the match could not produce a result as persistent rain prevented England from beginning their chase.

Ajay Jadeja Explains Why Abhishek Is The ‘Old Boss Baby’ before Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

While analysing Abhishek Sharma’s innings, Ajay Jadeja praised the opener’s free mindset and said he has never changed his natural style of batting.

Jadeja also pointed out that although Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has recently become popular among fans as “Boss Baby,” Abhishek had been playing with the same fearless attitude long before the teenage sensation arrived on the scene.

“We were talking about the Boss Baby. He is our old Boss Baby. Since the time he came, he has maintained the same approach. The good thing is that the approach hasn’t changed at all. In his batting, it doesn’t even seem like he is applying force to hit fours and sixes. The flow is so good,” Jadeja said on Sony Sports.

Notably, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earned "Boss Baby" title after sensational IPL 2026 season, where he finished as the leading run-getter with a haul of 776 runs.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi won a total of five awards, including Super Striker, Orange Cap and the Most Valuable Player. It is worth noting that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also smashed the most sixes in a single IPL season, breaking Chris Gayle's long-standing record.

Ajay Jadeja Highlights Abhishek’s Incredible Range

Ajay Jadeja also explained what makes Abhishek Sharma such a dangerous batter in the shortest format.

According to the former India cricketer, most attacking batters have one preferred scoring area. However, Abhishek has the ability to hit boundaries all around the ground.

“Attacking players generally play in one direction. Someone plays very well on the off side, and someone plays very well on the on side. His striking ability is from deep point to fine leg. So it becomes so difficult for the bowlers, and his success is probably because of that,” Jadeja added.

Since making his India debut in July 2024, Abhishek Sharma has established himself as one of the team’s most dangerous T20 batters.

So far, the left-handed opener has played 48 T20Is, scoring 1,546 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 193.25.
