Mumbai Indians deny releasing Hardik Pandya [Source: AFP]
Mumbai Indians have firmly dismissed speculation surrounding captain Hardik Pandya’s future, with the franchise making it clear that no discussions regarding player trades have taken place ahead of the IPL 2027 season.
Notably, the rumours gained momentum after multiple reports claimed that Hardik had become the biggest name in the IPL trade window, with as many as seven franchises reportedly interested in signing him.
CSK, KKR Frontrunners To Acquire Hardik
According to reports, teams including Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were among the frontrunners in the race to acquire Hardik.
Meanwhile, several other franchises were also believed to be monitoring the situation, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) reportedly stayed out of the pursuit.
MI Spokesperson Issues Official Clarification On Hardik Pandya
Despite widespread rumours, Mumbai Indians have made their stance clear. As reported by RevSportz, the franchise's spokesperson denied that any discussions regarding player trades are currently taking place.
The Mumbai Indians spokesperson said, “We have just begun our post season review and will look into all aspects of the team.
As with any review of this nature, a range of options and ideas will be evaluated before any decisions are made with regard to players, currently we are not engaged in conversations with regard to player trades, the same is only possible once the review is complete."
Therefore, the franchise has indicated that while every aspect of the squad will be reviewed, no decisions regarding player movements will be made until the process is completed.

Hardik Pandya's Challenging Journey With Mumbai Indians
It is important to note that Hardik Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2024 season after leading Gujarat Titans to the IPL title in 2022.
Furthermore, Hardik Pandya was appointed captain, replacing the highly successful Rohit Sharma. However, the decision did not go down well with a section of the MI fanbase, as Hardik faced boos at the Wankhede Stadium throughout the season.
Moreover, Mumbai Indians struggled significantly during IPL 2024 and finished at the bottom of the points table. Although the franchise bounced back by reaching the playoffs in 2025, another disappointing campaign in IPL 2026 once again placed both the team and its captain under intense scrutiny.
On an individual level, Hardik Pandya also endured one of the toughest seasons of his IPL career. In 10 matches, he scored just 206 runs at an average of 22.89 and a strike rate of 138.25. Additionally, his highest score was only 40, which clearly exposed his struggles with the bat.
Notably, his bowling performance was equally underwhelming, as he claimed only four wickets during the tournament.
Consequently, questions were raised about his overall impact and leadership following another disappointing season for the franchise.
