15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his much-awaited India debut in the 2nd T20I vs England. The youngster had to wait for four matches on the bench before finally getting his India cap.
The RR opener has already overshadowed everyone on the tour with the hype and excitement around him. The fans are talking about him, the pundits are focusing on him, and so is the Indian cricket team squad.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi In Plans For Next T20 World Cup Cycle
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had an impressive IPL 2026, winning the Orange Cap for his 776-run season. It earned him an India call-up, and now the 15-year-old is in selectors’ active plans for the next T20 World Cup cycle.
Talking about the RR opener, the southpaw didn’t have a great India debut as he amassed just 14 (10). However, Sooryavanshi did leave his mark as he slammed Jofra Archer for a six and slammed two maximums in total.
Now, there is a debate over whether India should utilise him carefully and bring back Sanju Samson for the 3rd T20I, or give a longer run to Sooryavanshi to prove his mettle on the international stage. Amid this debate, former India spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has gone on a different tangent, vouching for an ODI call-up for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Backed For 2027 ODI World Cup With One Condition
Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, who featured for India from 1983-1987 as a leg-break spinner, has backed the Rajasthan Royals opener to be considered for the ODI World Cup. The 60-year-old has urged the selectors to look beyond T20Is for the RR opener but also dropped one condition.
Also, the 60-year-old added that the situation arises only if the southpaw does well in the T20Is. So far, he has just two T20Is left to prove his mettle against England. India will tour Zimbabwe after England for a T20I series, where Sooryavanshi is expected to be a part of the Indian team.

"He sure should get a chance at the upcoming 50-over World Cup if he does exceedingly well in the T20 format. He should get an opportunity because he's going to be a match-winner," Sivaramakrishnan told PTI.
Does Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Deserve an ODI Call-Up For India?
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has played 25 youth ODIs so far in his career, amassing 1412 runs, with an average of 56.48. The youngster has four centuries and seven fifties.
Notably, Sooryavanshi also slammed a brilliant 175 against England U19 in the U-19 ODI World Cup, which proved his batting prowess in the fifty-over format.
Even before the India call-up, Sooryavanshi travelled with India A for a tri-series in Sri Lanka, where he scored 211 runs in 5 matches, averaging 42.20. He also batted with a strike rate of 200.95.
Therefore, placing him in the World Cup squad would be too soon, but considering the youngster for an ODI call-up isn’t too bad an option.
