On Sunday, July 5, Australia and England, two arch-nemeses, locked horns against each other for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final. Both teams entered the final without a defeat, and one of them is certain to suffer heartbreak.

At the toss, Australia won the toss and opted to field first, asking England to bat first at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Notably, it was England’s 6th time in this edition where the luck didn’t favour them during the coin flip.

England Register Embarrassing Record Before The Final

Overall, England have lost 6 tosses in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, winning only on one occasion. With that, the Three Lionesses scripted an embarrassing feat.

Notably, no other team than England women have lost more tosses in a single Women’s T20 World Cup edition. After the semi-finals, England had tied India and Ireland for five toss losses, but now they are the sole owners of this unwanted record.

Notably, England's only toss win came against Ireland, which was their 2nd match of T20 World Cup 2026. Since then, Nat Sciver-Brunt has been on the losing end. However, it didn't matter much because the Three Lionesses won the match, which was much more important.

England Catch India's Toss Luck In Women's T20 World Cup 2026

For the unversed, In eight One-Day Internationals (ODI), five Test matches and two T20 Internationals (T20I) played between 31 January and 31 July 2025, India contrived to lose 15 coin-tosses in succession.

The odds of that happening is just 1 in 1.3 lakh chances. It was that rare. Therefore, it seems that England captain caught onto India's toss luck in this edition. The probability of losing six tosses in a World Cup is pretty low, but as long as the result in going in their favour, it hardly matters.

Unlike other times, England are actually in a struggling situation in the final. The Nat Sciver-Brunt-led side lost two wickets within the powerplay. Skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt and Alice Capsey stitched a 35-run stand, but two successive wicket again brought England on the back-foot.

For the unversed, Australia are eyeing their 7th T20 World Cup title, while England have only won the prestigious 20-over event just once. At the time of writing this article, England are 73/4 after 11.3 overs.

Sciver Brunt, who walked out for the national anthem with her son is batting on 31 (33), while Freya Kemp is assisting her with 8(6), which features a four.
