Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has emerged as one of the most exciting future prospects to come out of India’s cricketing circle in the last couple of years. Such has been his dominance in domestic, IPL as well as in junior-level cricket that several selectors are reportedly planning to fast-track him into the national squad this year.
Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, however, believes that there are two more young Indian players on a similar pedestal as Sooryavanshi.
Harbhajan Singh praises Yashasvi Jaiswal
While speaking in an event organised by the Legends Club to celebrate Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday on Friday, Harbhajan Singh praised young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, but claimed that the 15-year-old is yet to create “enough buzz” to warrant a place in India’s Test squad.
Singh further praised Sooryavanshi’s Rajasthan Royals teammate and young Indian Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.

He said “They will have to make a place for themselves and of course, create enough buzz that they are good enough to be in the squad for Test cricket. If there is someone who is batting the best among them all is - Yashasvi Jaiswal, and we are not even talking about him much.”
Harbhajan believes that Jaiswal has a “perfect mix” of batting temperament to succeed in both, T20 and Test cricket.
The legendary off-spinner added “He has got the perfect mix of what is required in T20 and in Test cricket. He has got the mindset to leave the ball for a session and in the next session, he would start scoring runs. There are a very few with that sort of mindset and he has made a place for himself.”
Harbhajan Singh puts Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan and Sooryavanshi in the same league
Harbhajan Singh also praised blistering wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan and put him in the same batting league with the two Rajasthan Royals openers. Singh believes that the three cricketers have a similar mindset in hitting the ball.
He said “Jaiswal, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and even Ishan Kishan have the same mindset to hit the ball, but at the same time, you need to understand that when the ball moves and conditions differ, you have to have a game where you need to defend the ball. They will eventually learn, even through failures.”
Sooryavanshi can play Tests, believes Harbhajan
The former Indian spinner believes that if a 15-year-old player like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can hit the ball hard, the youngster can also play a good defense. The 2011 World Cup winner claims that the youngster has it in him to play Test cricket for India in the future.
He added “If a 15-year-old boy can hit the ball, he can also block. It is about the mindset, if you give him the chance he will adapt to that. But if you send him to England for a first tour where the ball will swing, it will not be a matter of intelligence. But if we want him to play Test cricket we will have to nurture him.”
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in contention to make India debut
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is already in contention to make his Team India debut at some point this year. Earlier this month, an explosive report stated that the likes of Sooryavanshi and fellow IPL stars like Priyansh Arya, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Shashank Singh and Anukul Roy among others are being considered by the BCCI.
Moreover, the report also claimed that IPL winning captains like Shreyas Iyer and Rajat Patidar are being eyed to lead a second-string Indian side following the conclusion of the ongoing IPL 2026 season.
The Indian cricket team is already scheduled to play multiple series after the tournament, which includes matches against Ireland and Afghanistan in June and July, and a Test series against West Indies and the 2026 Asian Games in September later this year.
