Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scorched the Gujarat Titans bowling attack with an electrifying 47-ball 96 in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2026 season. In doing so, the blistering Rajasthan Royals opener notched up his sixth fifty-plus score this season, and his third in the 90s in the space of his last four innings.
Through the course of his knock, Sooryavanshi also became the youngest and the fastest cricketer in IPL history to complete 1,000 runs.
His recent exploits have now earned him a significant praise from Indian businessman and IPL founder Lalit Modi, who even offered the 15-year-old a full educational scholarship.
Lalit Modi offers educational scholarship to Sooryavanshi
Shortly after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada for a cracking 47-ball 96 in Qualifier 2, former IPL chairman and league founder Lalit Modi shared an interesting post on X.
In his post, Modi praised the blistering Rajasthan Royals opener and described his 96-run knock “far greater” than a century.
He wrote “Today, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have fallen four runs short of a century. But in my view, he achieved something far greater. He woke up an entire nation to what fearless young talent looks like.”

Lalit Modi also offered Sooryavanshi an educational scholarship program, fully funded, to any university or college in the world. The Indian businessman added that a talent like him should never have to choose “between education and greatness”.
He stated “As someone who has always believed that sport must create opportunity, not just entertainment, I would like to offer Vaibhav a full educational scholarship — to any university or college anywhere in the world — completely funded, should he ever wish to pursue it. This is not for the runs he scored.”
Lalit Modi added “It is for the courage, belief and inspiration he has given millions of young Indians. Talent should never have to choose between education and greatness.”
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stacks up records in IPL 2026
Playing only his second IPL season, at an age of 15 no less, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stacked up a slew of some unique batting records to his name. Not long ago, the youngster plundered 97 runs off just 29 balls against the SRH in the Eliminator.
Through his match-winning knock, the Rajasthan Royals opener extended his IPL 2026 tally to 65 sixes, thus going past Chris Gayle’s record of launching the highest number of maximums in a single edition of the tournament.
Even against the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2, Sooryavanshi became the fastest cricketer in IPL history to complete 1,000 runs, in terms of number of balls bowled.
Rajasthan Royals crash out of IPL 2026 final race
Despite the best of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s efforts in the IPL 2026 playoffs, the Rajasthan Royals franchise failed to surpass Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 on Friday, May 29.
Charting 214-6 in 20 overs upfront, Rajasthan bowlers failed to contain Titans’ onslaught, largely orchestrated by Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill.
Under the leadership of Riyan Parag, the Royals have crashed out of the IPL 2026 final race as they finished third on the competition owing to their playoffs finish.
