The Mumbai Indians (MI) are going through one of their most difficult phases after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign. The five-time champions finished ninth on the points table, winning only four out of their 14 league matches. As a result, questions are being raised about the team's future. 

Hardik Pandya, who returned to Mumbai Indians and took over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, has faced heavy criticism. The all-rounder was unable to guide the team to success, and reports now suggest that he could lose the captaincy.

Dressing Room Leaks Become A Major Concern

While Hardik Pandya's future remains uncertain, the Mumbai Indians management is reportedly more concerned about another issue, dressing room leaks. 

According to TOI reports, confidential information from team meetings and strategic discussions has regularly found its way into the public domain over the last three seasons.

The franchise believes this problem is damaging team unity and trust. Therefore, before making decisions about captaincy or player retention, the management wants to stop these leaks and restore discipline within the squad.

Tensions Have Been Growing Since Hardik Pandya's Return

Since then, rumours of divisions within the squad have continued to surface. Although these remain reports and have not been officially confirmed, it is believed that the dressing room has been split into groups. This situation has only worsened over time because internal matters have repeatedly become public.

A TOI source tracking developments said, “Differences exist in almost every dressing room, but the division and bitterness at Mumbai Indians have been unusually high since Hardik returned.” 

 “It doesn’t take an expert to see what’s happening, but for a franchise like Mumbai Indians, which has always valued its core group, the constant leaks are a major concern," the source added.

Mumbai Indians Management Ready to Take Strict Action

The Mumbai Indians management is now reportedly preparing to take strong action. Sources suggest that senior players could face tough questions because the franchise feels some individuals have contributed to the unrest.

The management is also considering measures similar to the famous "emoji episode" from 2024, when social media activity from Mumbai Indians players created speculation about divisions within the team.

Officials believe that such incidents have harmed the franchise's image and distracted the team from its goals.

The road ahead will not be easy for the five-time IPL champions. Leadership concerns remain important, but the franchise believes that fixing the dressing room culture must come first. Team officials reportedly feel that some players have not been fully committed and that priorities have shifted away from winning matches.
