Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's wait for his India debut finally ended on July 4 as the teenage batting sensation became the youngest cricketer to represent the country.

At just 15 years and 99 days, the Bihar youngster broke Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record of making an India debut at the youngest age.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earned his maiden India call-up after a dream IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 776 runs, won the Orange Cap, and became the youngest player to achieve the feat.

However, he had to wait for his opportunity after remaining on the bench during India's two-match T20I series in Ireland and the opening T20I against England.

The wait finally ended in the second T20I at Old Trafford, with India replacing Sanju Samson in the playing XI.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's India Debut Ends In Disappointment

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's much-awaited India debut did not produce a big score, but the young opener showed his fearless batting.

Opening the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma, Sooryavanshi faced a tough challenge against Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue. Both fast bowlers tested him with pace and bounce early on.

After a cautious start, Sooryavanshi displayed his attacking mindset. He produced a sensational scoop shot over fine leg off Archer for his maiden international six before smashing Tongue over midwicket for another maximum.

However, England spinner Will Jacks ended his stay at the crease. The youngster charged down the wicket looking for another big shot but was beaten by a slower delivery.

Sooryavanshi’s innings ended at 14 runs off 10 balls, including two sixes.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shares Heartfelt Message After India Debut

Despite the disappointing result, Sooryavanshi remained grateful after achieving his lifelong dream of representing India.

Soon after making his international debut, the 15-year-old took to Instagram to thank everyone who had supported him throughout his journey.

"Living a dream we all saw together. Thank you to everyone who continues to support me and stand by me through my ups and downs. Grateful. #122,” he wrote in an earlier post after receiving his maiden India cap.

Later, he shared another emotional message on his Instagram Story after a poor performance on his India debut, thanking his well-wishers and senior players for their encouragement.

"Overwhelmed by all the messages. Thank you to everyone of my well-wishers and seniors for your constant love and support. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to represent my country, and I’ll always try to give my best for my team every single time. Thank you for everything, everyone," Sooryavanshi wrote.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Keen To Bounce Back In 3rd T20I

With the series now 1-0 (in England's favour), all eyes will be on India's team selection for the third T20I on July 7.

Although Sooryavanshi could not convert his debut into a memorable knock, his fearless intent and positive approach were encouraging signs. Given his age and immense talent, India will likely continue to back the youngster.

If he gets another opportunity in the IND vs ENG 3rd T20I, Sooryavanshi will be keen to justify the faith shown in him and deliver a better performance.
