Gujarat's wicketkeeper-batter and CSK-famed Urvil Patel smashed a maiden first-class double century in a Ranji Trophy 2026/27 fixture against Kerala on Tuesday.

The one-time champions have been unbeaten so far in Group C, winning their opening round fixture against Odisha. Meanwhile, they were able to pull off draws in the following matches vs Delhi & Maharashtra.

Urvil Patel slams double century in Ranji Trophy 2026/27 tie vs Kerala

On Day 2 of the Gujarat vs Kerala match at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, Urvil Patel completed his century off just 91 deliveries while batting with the lower-order batters, then completed his double century in 214 balls.

Urvil's maiden double century comprised 17 boundaries and six maximums, as he pounded bowlers all across the park in Ahmedabad.

Urvil Patel shared a mammoth 179-run partnership with Vishal Jayswal for the sixth wicket, before sharing a 78-run stand for the eighth wicket with Amit Desai. The wicketkeeper-batter was the aggressor in both partnerships.

Meanwhile, he later stitched another remarkable stand of 82 with Siddharth Desai for the ninth wicket, but it was ended with latter's dismissal.

Soon after the lunch break on the second day, Gujarat declared their first-innings total is at 534/9. The Kerala bowlers have toiled for the first two days. Even the prolific Jalaj Saxena has looked flat against the Gujarat batters.

Aarya Desai, Abhishek Desai pay way for GUJ; Urvil Patel takes over later

Earlier on Monday, Chintan Gaja won the toss for the hosts, asking the visitors to bowl first.

The opening pair of Aarya Desai and Abhishek Desai laid the perfect platform with a 116-run partnership. However, both the openers missed milestones, with Aarya getting dismissed for 95 and Abhishek getting undone on 42.

The next three batters failed to go big, but Urvil Patel had a mission locked in. After missing on a couple of hundreds in the last three outings, the attacking right-handers made the Kerala bowlers pay.

Urvil scored his highest score of 210* in the Ranji Trophy, but Gujarat declared the innings after 144.2 overs.
