The Indian Premier League (IPL 2027) auction is approaching, and trade talks are in full swing. As the excitement continues to build, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are currently undergoing a major overhaul, have reportedly received a huge trade proposal.
According to reports, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) management has contacted CSK ahead of the auction and requested the franchise to trade Urvil Patel in exchange for an experienced player.
LSG Ready To Trade Mohammed Shami
According to a report by the Times of India (Tamil Samayam), Lucknow Super Giants have asked CSK to trade Urvil Patel. In return, LSG are reportedly prepared to part ways with experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami and send him to the Yellow Army.
Notably, Shami joined LSG from Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2026 season and enjoyed a decent campaign. He started the tournament strongly and played a key role during the first half of the season.
However, his performances dipped in the latter stages. Overall, the veteran pacer claimed 12 wickets in 13 innings while maintaining an economy rate of 9.00. Despite Shami's experience, LSG appear willing to let him go in order to strengthen their batting unit with the addition of Urvil Patel.

Should CSK Accept The Trade?
It is worth noting that Urvil Patel was bought by CSK for ₹30 lakh ahead of the IPL 2025 season. During the 2025 campaign, he played three innings and scored 68 runs. Meanwhile, in IPL 2026, he impressed with 129 runs at an outstanding strike rate of 201.5.
Notably, Urvil got the opportunity to bat at No. 3 after young batter Ayush Mhatre suffered a severe left hamstring injury. He made the most of the chances given to him and showcased his aggressive batting approach.
However, once Ayush Mhatre returns next season, Urvil Patel could find himself on the bench, as CSK already have several top-order batting options. Therefore, if the franchise receives a chance to acquire a proven match-winner like Mohammed Shami, the management could seriously consider the proposal.
It is imporant to note that CSK are currently looking for an experienced pacer who can partner with Khaleel Ahmed and lead the pace attack. Their bowling unit lacked consistency in both the powerplay and the death overs last season.
Therefore, Mohammed Shami's arrival could add much-needed experience and strengthen an already powerful squad with the likes of Matt Henry, Spencer Johnson.
Why LSG Are Going For Urvil Patel?
On the other hand, LSG also have strong reasons to pursue Urvil Patel. Following the trade of former captain Rishabh Pant to Delhi Capitals, the franchise now requires an explosive top-order batter along with wicketkeeping skills.
Notably, Urvil's aggressive intent and ability to score quickly make him a suitable option, which explains why LSG are reportedly ready to sacrifice a senior player like Mohammed Shami to bring him into their squad.
