The Lucknow Super Giants have hit rock bottom of the IPL 2026 points table after a super over defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders at home on Sunday night, making it only two wins in 8 matches for them.

Across several other issues in LSG's ongoing campaign, decision-making and composure under pressure have been evident in the first eight matches. Similarly, Digvesh Rathi, bowling the final over, and the out-of-form Nicholas Pooran, facing Sunil Narine in the Super Over, have raised eyebrows.

Reacting to the decisions made on Sunday night, Rishabh Pant shockingly hinted at an intervention in decision-making after the loss, raising further questions.

KKR topples LSG in the battle of the strugglers

Leading up to the showdown in Lucknow, the hosts, LSG, were placed 9th in the table with two wins, including one against KKR this season, while KKR had one win in 7 matches and were placed 10th.

After putting KKR in to bat first, LSG looked all over the visitors, having reduced them to 112/7 in 18 overs. However, Mohammed Shami went for 17 in the penultimate over, followed by a questionable over from Digvesh Rathi, which went for 26, and KKR finished 155/7.

In response, the struggling LSG batting line-up once again looked out of sorts, with below-par knocks from the mainstays, including the struggling Nicholas Pooran. They needed Mohammed Shami and Himmat Singh to level the scores on the final ball of the match to go into the super over.

Once again, Pooran and Sunil Narine were made to face off in a super over after all these years, and the batter was dismissed on the first ball. LSG only made 1 run in the Super Over and eventually lost the match.

Pant hints at too many voices in on-field calls

It is famously said, 'too many cooks spoil the broth',  and LSG skipper Rishabh Pant resonated a similar feeling at the end of the match against KKR. Upon speaking to the broadcasters for a post-match interview, he made a shocking revelation, which could raise a lot of questions on the LSG think-tank.

The southpaw clearly did not look happy with the number of voices he has to deal with while making any on-field decision, and openly expressed this feeling for the first time in the season.

"Too many minds doesn't make it easy on the ground," he told, as he defended the calls of using Digvesh Rathi and Nicholas Pooran in the aforementioned crunch situations during the game.

LSG look for spirited comeback in IPL 2026

Since the blockbuster buy of Rishabh Pant in IPL 2025 for INR 27 crore, he was made the face of LSG with the role of captain. However, things have drastically gone south for both LSG and Pant as they have only managed 8 wins in 22 matches since the start of last season.

With 6 league games remaining for them, LSG go on a short break now, with the next match scheduled at the Wankhede Stadium against the Mumbai Indians on May 4. Currently, they are alive in the tournament, but every match from here on becomes a must-win for them, and they will look at the captain for some inspiration.

So far in IPL 2026, Pant has only scored 189 runs in 8 innings, striking at a shocking 126.84, while someone like Nicholas Pooran has scored 82 runs at a strike rate of 81.18. Moving forward, Josh Inglis could instil some freshness in the squad, and they could make some tough decisions upon returning to action.
