The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered yet another defeat, this time to hitherto cellar-dwellers KKR via a Super Over in match number 38 of the IPL 2026 season. Chasing 156 for a win, Mohammed Shami struck a last-ball six to enforce a thrilling tie, before some of LSG’s hard-hitting and most elite overseas batters collapsed in front of an experienced Sunil Narine.
A few days ago, LSG were already staring at a daunting road to keep their playoff aspirations alive. This latest setback has only tightened the noose, leaving them with little margin for error in the race for securing a top-four finish.
As they navigate the second half of their league stage, here is a look at LSG’s entire scenario for making it among the top four sides of the tournament before the knockouts.
How can LSG qualify for IPL 2026 playoffs?
The LSG franchise, under the leadership of struggling wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, has managed to secure just two wins at an expense of six defeats from eight matches. Their latest defeat against the KKR pushed Pant’s group down to the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table.
Moreover, even LSG’s NRR of -1.106 marks the worst among all 10 sides of the competition. Finding themselves languishing at the foot of the ladder, the franchise now faces an even steeper road ahead.
As it turns out, LSG remain mathematically alive in the playoff race, though only barely.
To finish the league stage among the top four sides of the competition, the franchise needs to win each of their remaining six fixtures. In doing so, the team will reach a maximum of 16 points, which has proven enough for all sides for reaching the playoffs ever since the IPL became a 74-match event in 2022.
There is also an outside possibility of LSG making it to the top four by reaching 14 points, i.e., by winning five of its remaining six games. However, only one team has ever qualified for the playoffs with a tally of 14 points in a 74-match IPL season, with RCB doing so back in IPL 2024 by edging out the others courtesy of a superior NRR.
What are LSG’s remaining games of IPL 2026?
As per the IPL 2026 schedule, the LSG franchise still has six matches left in the bank, which includes three home fixtures at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Here is a look at LSG’s remaining schedule of the tournament.

LSG’s top-performers of IPL 2026 thus far
In an otherwise high-scoring season, no LSG batter features among the top 10 highest run-makers of IPL 2026. Moreover, the most successful LSG batter of the season, Mitchell Marsh, is currently ranked number 19 on the run-scoring charts of the tournament, doing so with 212 runs in eight innings at an average of 26.50.
No other LSG batter has managed to scale the 200-run mark, with both Aiden Markram and captain Rishabh Pant finding themselves at 193 and 189 runs respectively from eight innings each.
LSG’s fast bowling department, however, has been ably helmed by Prince Yadav and Mohsin Khan. Prince even held the coveted ‘Purple Cap’ for a while, and he is currently sitting on a pile of 13 wickets from eight innings at an average of 18.61.
