Angkrish Raghuvanshi given out for obstructing the field vs LSG [Source: AP]
Controversy brewed at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow as the Lucknow Super Giants hosted the Kolkata Knight Riders in the bottom-of-the-table clash in IPL 2026. During the Sunday double-header night fixture, KKR’s Angkrish Raghuvanshi was, in a rare instance, given out for obstructing the field.
This is one of the only few examples of such wickets in IPL history, as the third umpire felt the 21-year-old deliberately changed direction to return to the crease after a mix-up with Cameron Green.
As the decision raised eyebrows, with many thinking it was an unfair call against Raghuvanshi, we take a look at the list of IPL players who have been given out similarly in the past.
Obstructing the field dismissals in IPL
1. Yusuf Pathan – KKR vs PWI, 2013
The first-ever obstructing-the-field incident in the IPL occurred when KKR faced the Pune Warriors India in Ranchi in 2013.
While chasing 171 on the night, Yusuf Pathan went all guns blazing to take his team past the winning line, scoring 72 off 44 with 8 fours and 2 sixes. At 17.5, having struck 14 runs in the over, he was seen deliberately kicking the ball away from the bowler, who was looking to run him out.
Upon PWI’s appeal, the Pathan was found guilty of trying to kick the ball away and was given out. Eventually, KKR lost the match by 7 runs.

2. Amit Mishra – DC vs SRH, 2019
During the IPL 2019 playoff, in a crunch situation, Delhi Capitals batter Amit Mishra found himself in a position where the Capitals needed 2 runs off 3 balls in the Eliminator in Vishakhapatnam.
While chasing 163 runs, Mishra, who was 1*(1) at the moment, and they had 3 wickets in hand. As he tried to sneak in a single off a bye against Khaleel Ahmed at 19.4, he changed running direction and came between Khaleel and the stumps and was hit by the ball.
He was ruled out by the umpire at 1(2); however, Keemo Paul, who found himself on strike, hit a four on the next ball, and they won the game by 2 wickets.
3. Ravindra Jadeja – CSK vs RR, 2024
The last recorded incident of such dismissal in IPL came when CSK and RR locked horns in IPL 2024, Match 61 in Chennai.
Batting first, RR had posted an underwhelming total of 141/5 in 20 overs. When CSK needed just 22 off 26 balls, Ravindra Jadeja guided a short ball from Avesh Khan towards the third man and ran a single. Batting alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, he returned for the second run, but Gaikwad did not look interested in the double.
While turning back to the crease, Jadeja, who was initially running back in a straight line, changed his direction and got hit by Sanju Samson’s throw. The third umpire felt Jadeja was watching the ball at the moment and called him out for 5 off 6. Nonetheless, CSK won the match in 18.2 overs by 5 wickets.
4. Angkrish Raghuvanshi
The latest instance when a batter was given out for allegedly changing his direction came in IPL 2026 clash between KKR and LSG at the Ekana Stadium. The struggling KKR once again found themselves 3/1 when Raghuvanshi came in to bat.
As he has done previously in the season, the batter was looking to consolidate with Cameron Green and at the 4.6 over mark, hit Prince Yadav’s back-of-the-length delivery towards mid on and looked for a quick single. Raghuvanshi, who has been found in mix-ups all season, was sent back, and the batter was hit by the ball on his way.
He was given out for 9 (8) as KKR found themselves 27/3 in just 5.1 overs, but the decision was scrutinised by fans and experts, who claimed that Raghuvanshi could not have done anything else in the situation.
The argument was that, if he turned back and ran from where he was, it would have been another breach because it was in the middle of the pitch, which could have damaged the playing area. Raghuvanshi and the KKR camp looked livid with the decision and Cameron Green was also seen arguing with the umpire.
