Jason Holder is having a stellar 2026 in the game’s shortest format. He shone for the West Indies in the T20 World Cup, delivered the goods for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, and as a result, the West Indian all-rounder has been picked by a franchise for the upcoming SA20 2027.
Holder has witnessed a purple patch as of late, and the SA20 franchise, Joburg Super Kings, have decided to take a punt on him as the West Indian signs a deal with them. Moreover, one of Super Kings' longest-serving players, Faf du Plessis has not been retained by the franchise.
Jason Holder signed by Joburg Super Kings for SA20 2027
In the latest development, Holder has been drafted into the Joburg Super Kings squad, as he headlines a star-studded overseas arrivals after the six SA20 franchises confirmed their retained players and pre-auction signings.
Holder’s arrival will strengthen the team’s middle order and bowling department as the Super Kings have already made a quick move after a not-so-promising SA20 2025-26 season.
Holder will bolster their finishing department, and that was one of the reasons why the franchise swiftly moved for him.
How Holder's arrival strengthens Super Kings franchise
Last season, the Joburg Super Kings were heavy on top, but the middle order lacked destruction as their finishing abilities were questioned time and again.
Holder’s arrival changes the equation as he can easily bat at number 5 and 6, and can play as the finisher for the team. Moreover, Holder has improved tremendously as a bowler, and he can be quite useful with his slower cutter balls.

He scalped 17 wickets in just 11 matches for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, and that was one of the main reasons why the team reached the IPL final. Hence, that usefulness with the ball will come in handy for Joburg in SA20 2027.
Joburg Super Kings part ways with Faf du Plessis
In a surprising turn of events, the franchise parted ways with South African great Faf du Plessis. The former Proteas captain led the franchise for the last four seasons, but the team wanted a change, and as a result, du Plessis was let go from the squad.
Moreover, du Plessis had a disastrous SA20 2025-26 season for the Joburg Super Kings, and that contributed towards his exit from the team. In seven matches, he scored just 135 runs, with an average of 27 and a strike rate of 151.68.
Faf du Plessis has been one of the longest-serving Super Kings members, having played for the Chennai Super Kings, Joburg, and also for the Texas Super Kings in the MLC. He already moved away from CSK a couple of years ago and has left the Joburg team as well.
