The India-Pakistan fiasco ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 has kept fans on edge, but the PSL stole the spotlight with a blockbuster move of its own. Starting the PSL journey this year, the Sialkot Stallions signed former Australian captain Steve Smith for the upcoming season.

After being snubbed from Australia’s T20I side and being unsold in the IPL 2026, Smith is set to kickstart his PSL journey. Reports suggest the Sialkot Stallionz snapped him up for a staggering 14 crore deal, making Smith one of the most expensive signings in PSL history.

Steve Smith makes PSL history before facing a single ball

Since the Pakistan Super League came into the cricket arena, Pakistani cricket fans have seen some of the best T20 moments. As the cricket world prepares to watch another thrilling season of the marquee event, the PCB brought some bold changes to the tournament. Two new franchises have been added, promising an even tighter and more competitive PSL.

Being a part of PCB’s new initiative, the Sialkot Stallionz are all set to start a new journey in the tournament. Eager to make a strong statement in their maiden season, the Stallionz are building a formidable squad and have taken a big first step by signing former Australian captain Steve Smith.

As the draft is scheduled for February 11, Smith was picked up as a direct signing, as per the new rule of the cricket board. While the seasoned Australian batter prepares to enter the PSL arena, his reported salary figure has already turned heads.

Reports suggest the Stallionz snapped up Smith for a staggering deal worth over PKRN 14 crore, instantly making him the most expensive player in PSL history. In the last season, David Warner was highest paid cricketer in PSL, with a salary of around 2.57 crore in INR.

Steve Smith’s magical streak takes over BBL 2026

Despite being left out of Australia’s T20I setup, Smith has kept his white-ball brilliance razor sharp, with the recently concluded BBL standing as proof. Representing the Sydney Sixers, he enjoyed a dream run in the entire tournament. In six matches, he scored 299 runs with an average of 59.80.

Adding to this, while facing the Sydney Thunder, he smashed a sensational ton and played an innings of 110 runs in 65 balls. Although the Sixers finished runners-up after a heartbreaking final against the Perth Scorchers, Smith remained one of the biggest strengths of the side throughout the campaign.

Smith gears up for a new T20 journey

In Australia’s cricket history, Steve Smith is a white ball great, but his notable absence of their shortest format squad has grabbed the attention. Being overlooked for Australia’s T20 World Cup 2026 team proved a major setback, and the disappointment deepened further when he went unsold in the IPL 2026.

To revamp his T20 career, he is set to step into the PSL arena for the very first time. In the Sialkot Stallionz’s jersey, he will kickstart his PSL journey as the world is eagerly awaiting to see some of the fireworks from the Aussie great on Australian soil.
