Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is mourning a major personal loss after the death of his elder brother, Shahid Akhtar. The news was confirmed by Shoaib himself through a message shared on social media, where he informed followers that his brother had "returned to Allah" and said funeral details would be shared later.
The development has triggered an outpouring of support from cricket fans, former players and well-wishers across the world. For Shoaib Akhtar, the loss goes far beyond family ties. Shahid Akhtar was one of the earliest influences in his life and played an important role in helping him discover cricket.

No official statement has been made regarding any break from professional duties. At present, the focus remains on supporting his family and honouring the memory of his elder brother.
