Pakistan Cricket is going a major downfall, especially in the longest format as they were whitewashed by Bangladesh under the leadership of Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shan Masood.

Although the Men in Green made some sort of comeback in ODIs against Australia, the Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are reportedly looking to modify the whole leadership group.

Masood, who took the charge in late 2023, has lost 12 out of 16 Test matches. However, Ahmed was instated as Pakistan's red-ball head coach just before the two-match Test series against Pakistan.

Sword hanging over Captain Shan Masood

If reports are to be believed, Mohsin Naqvi's PCB will drop Shan Masood as the Test captain, and Salman Ali Agha is set to replace the left-handed top-order batter.

According to Pakistan's media house Geo News, Masood would not be leading Pakistan during the forthcoming tours of the West Indies and England.

"His (Shan Masood) familiarity with English conditions and the media environment could prove valuable for Pakistan during the series," a report from Geo News read.

The 36-year-old toured England twice in 2016 and 2020, playing five Test matches to notch 250 runs at an average of 27.77, including a 156 at Manchester. Moreover, he has played a Test match in the West Indies.

Interestingly, Masood has a truckload of experience playing county cricket in England. He has also led Derbyshire and Yorkshire during his time.

Overall, he has represented Pakistan in 46 Tests to score 2653 runs at an average of 30.49, notching six hundreds and 14 half-centuries.

Sarfaraz Ahmed to keep his job as red-ball coach

Apart from Shan Masood, there have been speculations about Sarfaraz Ahmed's removal as the red-ball coach, but the report by Geo News states otherwise. The PCB won't fire the Champions Trophy-winning captain after just one failure.

If Ahmed keeps his job, reports regarding the hiring of Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez will be deemed false.

"Sarfaraz Ahmed has reportedly been given a clean chit and will continue as head coach for the upcoming Test tours of the West Indies and England," the report added.

Baring the infamous defeat in Bangladesh, Sarfaraz has had tremendous experience as a coach. Under his mentorship, the Pakistan boys recently won the Under-19 Asia Cup by beating India U19.

Later, Pakistan U19 had an impressive campaign at the 2026 U19 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Pakistan recharging batteries before WI, ENG tours

Currently, the Men in Green are recharging their batteries after a gruelling season, which included the T20 World Cup 2026, PSL 2026, and bilaterals in Bangladesh.

Pakistan will first tour the Caribbean Islands for two Test matches in July and August, before playing three Tests in England in August and September.

Reportedly, Pakistan ODI captain Shaheen Afridi is expected to be benched during the two away tours as per the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB's workload management policy.

Interestingly, the premier left-arm seamer was rested during the second Test against Pakistan, citing the same reason.
