The India vs Afghanistan one-off Test concluded a couple of days ago, and while the contest produced several match-winners, including Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant, one name stood out, and he was not a batter.

Indian selectors made a bold call by picking Manav Suthar in the squad for the one-off Test match, and the all-rounder made an immediate impact on his debut, as he rattled the Afghan side, and helped India win by a huge margin.

Manav Suthar shines on India debut

In the India vs Afghanistan one-off Test match, the spinners from the visiting side struggled to pick Indian wickets, and on the other hand, Suthar made a mockery of the Afghanistan batting lineup.

In India’s first innings, Suthar contributed 28 runs off 41 balls, and looked rock solid as a lower-order batter. However, the best was yet to come as he ran through the Afghan batters in their first innings.

The spinner scalped 6 wickets for 33 runs on his debut, and broke several Test records as the visiting side got bundled out for a mere 152. In the second innings, he again plucked a solitary wicket to end the Test match with 7 wickets under his name on debut.

For his overall contributions, Suthar was adjudged the Player of the Match on his Test debut as he carved a name for himself.

Warwickshire sign match-winner Suthar for County Championship

After witnessing Suthar’s brilliance on his Test debut against Afghanistan, the English County side, Warwickshire, has decided to rope in the star bowler, and the Indian player will join them for the next two rounds of the County Championship.

Suthar will hope to make an immediate impact as Warwickshire look to maintain their title push. The Warwickshire side needed a quality spinner in their ranks, and they got their hands on one of the most promising Indian spinners.

After signing for the Bears (Warwickshire), Suthar released his first official statement, wherein he was ecstatic to join the English County side.

 “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Warwickshire for the next two County Championship games.

“The team have started the season very well, so I’m hoping that I can play a part in helping them in their push for the title.”

Suthar brings wickets to the table as Warwickshire aim for title push

The 23-year-old left-arm orthodox player has made a name for himself in the Indian domestic circuit, and even though he has played just 30 first-class games, the wicket-tally remains promising.

In 30 matches, he has scalped 136 wickets, with an average of 24.89. The spin-bowling all-rounder has 7 fifers to his name as Suthar brings wickets to the table for his new County team, Warwickshire.

Apart from the ball, Suthar can also contribute with the bat, having scored 973 runs, including six fifties, and a solitary hundred.

Suthar's County experience will help India in the long run

With R Ashwin retired, and Ravindra Jadeja not a regular feature in the Test squad, the Indian side needs a reliable spinner in overseas conditions, and at just 23, Suthar can be the long-term solution for the side.

In recent years, Indian spinners have not done well in English conditions, but Suthar can change the fortunes by getting valuable experience in the County Championship. He would get an understanding of the English conditions and the lines he needs to bowl to get wickets under such circumstances.

For the future India tour of England, Suthar can be India’s front-line spinner if he can do well during the two County Championship matches.
