In a significant development in the middle of the IPL 2026 extravaganza, the former Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, has made a subtle hint at what life after cricket could look like for him.
While the Mumbai Indians linger at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table, Rohit Sharma has come out and officially announced a TV show, where he will be the centre of attraction, leaving suspense over what the show has to offer.
Rohit Sharma announces TV debut after IPL 2026
The MI opener recently returned to IPL 2026 after missing over 20 days of action due to a hamstring injury and scored a blistering 84 off 44 in a winning cause.
Following up on the half-century, Rohit Sharma and OTT platform, SonyLIV, took to their social media platforms to announce a brand new TV show involving the legendary batter. In the teaser, they took a funny jibe at Rohit himself regarding his famous “garden” moment during the England series in 2024.
As of now, what will happen in the show or when it begins remains a mystery, but by the looks of it, Rohit could be seen on the silver screen during his time off the field, considering he has retired from the Tests and T20Is.

Rohit eyes a strong finish to IPL 2026
The former IPL-winning skipper is central to the Mumbai Indians staying alive in the tournament after a poor first half of the season. Having scored two fifties in 5 innings, while stitching 140+ run stands with Ryan Rickelton.
After MI’s 10 matches, where he has featured only 5 times, he is their third-highest run-scorer with 221 runs, with two fifties in wins. He also has a swashbuckling strike rate of 174.01, showing his hunger to compete with the younger generation of opening batters.
As things stand, MI are placed 9th on the table, level on points with the bottom-placed Lucknow Super Giants, winning three of their 10 games, losing 7. They do not have their destiny in their own hands but remain mathematically alive in IPL 2026 for the time being.
MI looks to be the spoilsports of IPL 2026
Placed 9th on the table, Rohit Sharma and co. find themselves in a situation where they have nothing to lose in IPL 2026. However, looking at their upcoming fixtures, they can derail a couple of campaigns in the league phase.
In their next two matches, they face last year’s champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the runner-ups, Punjab Kings — both eyeing top-2 (Qualifier 1) spots. A win against either or both will be detrimental to RCB and PBKS’ aspirations.
Furthermore, they will also face the Rajasthan Royals in their final league match, which will be at home. Currently placed in the top-4, RR are also eyeing to secure the playoffs and potentially top-2 in the season, and their fate could even be decided in this encounter against MI and how Rohit Sharma performs in the match.
