Day 2 of India’s tour match against Sri Lanka XI started rather weirdly for wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, who was active on social media in the early hours of Saturday.
In an interesting tweet, Pant made a special appeal to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in a long post. At close to 1 in the night, Pant tagged the CM, asking for assistance in finding suitable land to facilitate his move to Uttarakhand.

Writing on his official Twitter account, Pant noted how difficult it has been for him to move back to his home state and that he has been trying to do so for the last three years.
“I wanna move back to my native place to help and build around Uttarakhand, and I want to shift back to my Pahadi people. Please look into this matter; it’s been 3 years, didn’t get any land,” wrote the player.
Despite some fun and trolling over the tweets, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami responded to the player early in the morning. He assured that the concerned authorities are looking into the matter and will contact him as soon as possible, while also appreciating Pant’s sentiment to return to his homeland.
“Dear Rishabh, you are the pride of Uttarakhand. With your splendid performance and achievements, you have illuminated the name of Devbhoomi in the country and the world. Your love for your motherland and your sentiment of returning here to contribute are highly commendable,” wrote Pushkar Singh Dhami.
“Regarding the matter you have raised, instructions are being issued to the concerned officials. They will soon contact you and ensure all possible cooperation in accordance with the rules,” he concluded.

Why does Pant want to shift to Uttarakhand?
Rishabh Pant, who is currently on the tour of Sri Lanka, was born in Roorkie, Haridwar, Uttar Pradesh, which is now an integral part of Uttarakhand.
However, after spending his early part of childhood in his home state, he moved to Delhi to train with the famed coach, the late Tarak Sinha, at Sonnet Cricket Academy. Things worked out well for him, and his domestic career kicked off well with Delhi, where he continues to play to date.
Now that he has established himself as an India cricketer, Pant is looking to have a base back home so he can spend time with the Pahadi people, as he mentioned in his tweet. This would also help him promote his home state while he can still travel to Delhi if required.
Will Rishabh Pant change his domestic team to Uttarakhand?
As things stand, there is no official word from Rishabh Pant, or DDCA or CAU, regarding his move to Uttarakhand in domestic cricket.
The domestic season begins in September and, likely, Pant stays back with Delhi, considering the better facilities on offer. He was also the captain of their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26 campaign, making him an important fixture in the side.
Uttarakhand, on the other hand, is still a growing team that played its first Ranji Trophy match in 2018, when Rishabh Pant had already represented India.
