Team India seems to be undergoing a soft reset in terms of its coaching staff. For instance, the tenure of fielding coach T Dilip recently concluded, and he will not be travelling to Sri Lanka for next month’s Test series.
Former Netherlands cricketer Ryan ten Doeschate also stepped down as India’s assistant coach, a decision he previously made clear during the white-ball series in England earlier this month.
Certain reports are now indicating that India’s fast bowling coach Morne Morkel might follow their paths by quitting Indian cricket. Here, we take a look at the truth behind these reports and whether Morkel is also set to leave the Indian team.
Will Morne Morkel leave India’s coaching job?
As per a Times of India report, Morne Morkel will continue to remain with the Indian cricket team. The former South Africa fast bowler has decided to stay on for Team India, and is hoping that the senior members of the team will utilize his experience for next year’s 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup.

It is worth noting that the 50-overs showpiece event next year will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
With Morne Morkel being a former South Africa cricketer himself, the 41-year-old is aiming to extend his experience for the 'superstars' of the Indian cricket team.
His experience will surely help Indian fast bowlers, as well as several senior batters in a bid to successfully tackle the pace and bounce of the South African conditions.
With Morne Morkel not going anywhere, the TOI report also made it clear that there are no more exits expected from Team India’s coaching staff, at least for the time being.
Why did T Dilip and Ryan ten Doeschate quit Indian cricket team?
T Dilip served as India’s fielding coach during their triumphant 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaigns. He was also the fielding coach of the team in their successful 2026 T20 World Cup heist earlier this year.
However, the BCCI has now decided to part ways with him, reportedly owing to a sharp decline in India’s fielding standards over the last few tournaments and series.
For instance, the ‘Men in Blue’ players dropped 11 catches during the white-ball series in England, and another 10 during the three-match T20I tour of Zimbabwe earlier this month.
Ryan Ten Doeschate also stepped down as India’s assistant coach, albeit owing to personal reasons. The former Netherlands cricketer earlier claimed that he wanted to spend more time with his family, and the hectic travelling schedule associated with Team India prevents him from his personal time.
He will now likely join the KKR franchise for a fresh coaching gig, considering it is comparatively a less demanding job.
India to tour Sri Lanka with new fielding coach
Team India will now tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series next month. As per a report, the BCCI have appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as India's new fielding coach ahead of the tour as a replacement of T Dilip.
The board will also be expected to announce a replacement of Ryan Ten Doeschate in the coming days.
In any case, the impending tour of Sri Lanka will mark a soft reboot for India’s coaching setup, even though Morne Morkel has decided to stay on as team’s fast bowling coach.
