The toss update is out and so are the playing 11s for both Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT), who are facing each other in a highly anticipated IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 clash in Dharamshala.

And once again Phil Salt remains out of the action for the Qualifier 1 played today, May 26. It is important to note that the winner of today's clash will book a spot in the IPL 2026 final.

Reigning champions RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, finished as table-toppers in the league stage and are aiming to reach their second consecutive IPL final.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill-led GT finished second in the league stage, and are looking to reach their third IPL final in five years. RCB talisman Virat Kohli will look to add another accolade to his name as he is 43 runs away from a huge record.

However, at present, the talks remain about Phil Salt’s absence from the RCB playing 11 for the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1.

Why is Phil Salt not playing today IPL 2026 Qualifier 1?

For the unversed, Phil Salt had sustained a finger injury while fielding in the RCB vs DC encounter earlier in IPL 2026 and was subsequently sidelined from the playing XI of the Bengaluru-based franchise.

The Englishman flew back to his home mid-IPL and spent the recovery period with his family. However, last week, the RCB opener rejoined his team in India.

Notably, RCB captain Rajat Patidar, when asked about Salt’s availability for the high-octane match, said, "Salt is fit. He is under observation from the doctor. He has been participating in a few drills, but we haven’t decided on our playing eleven yet. We will look at the wicket and decide."

Thus, the decision to keep Salt, who is still nursing a finger injury, out of the action could be a tactical call by the defending champions' think tank.

Moreover, with RCB finishing in the top two of the IPL 2026 points table by the end of the league stage, apart from the Qualifier 1, they would have another chance to qualify for the final: the Qualifier 2 on Friday. This gives them the leverage not to rush Phil Salt.

Who will open for RCB with Virat Kohli?

In Salt and later Jacob Bethell’s absence, Venkatesh Iyer received the opportunity to open the RCB innings alongside Virat Kohli.

It is also worth noting that Venkatesh has a remarkable record in the IPL playoffs. The left-handed batter stands as the only player in tournament history to score four consecutive half-centuries in playoff matches.

Thus, it can be said that the RCB management decided to retain Venkatesh Iyer, given his historic run in the business end of the tournament.

Take a look at RCB playing against GT:

Virat Kohli, Venkatesh Iyer, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (c), Krunal Pandya, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Tim David, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam, Jacob Duffy

Impact players: Romario Shepherd, Suyash Sharma, Kanishk Chouhan, Abhinandan Singh, Jordan Cox
