Suryakumar Yadav Joins Local Team After MI's IPL Exit; Set To Play Against Uganda

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is going through a tough phase in his career. The right-handed batter had a poor IPL 2026, which has now put his future with the Indian team in jeopardy. For the unversed, SKY only amassed 270 runs in 13 innings.

Before the start of IPL, there were discussions about whether Suryakumar Yadav would retain his place as India captain for the next cycle. The India skipper had a terrible year with the bat, and IPL was his last hope, which he squandered badly.

Suryakumar Yadav To Play In Mumbai T20 League Ahead Of India Assignment

Suryakumar Yadav’s poor run with the bat resulted in Mumbai Indians crashing out of IPL 2026 before the playoffs. Now, the next assignment for the right-handed batter is India’s upcoming tour to the UK, which begins on June 21. 

The BCCI has not released the squad for the upcoming series, which is why Suryakumar Yadav is sweating hard over whether he will be picked or not. Interestingly, he has one more chance to impress the selectors.

From June 1, the fourth edition of Mumbai T20 league will commence with eight teams taking part. Suryakumar Yadav will continue to play for Triumph Knights Mumbai North East. It will be his 2nd season with the franchise. In 2025, SKY played four matches, where he scored 122 runs in four innings. 

Suryakumar Yadav To Play Against Uganda

In the latest events, Suryakumar Yadav is all set to join Triumph Knights Mumbai North East early and will feature against Uganda on May 30. The Uganda team is currently on a tour of Mumbai for four one-dayers and as many T20 games. 

The matches in the T20 format are being played against four separate opponents from the T20 Mumbai League, which begins here on June 1.

For the unversed, the MCA and Uganda cricket association have penned a deal to work together to uplift Uganda cricket.

MCA Official Speaks On Suryakumar Yadav’s Availability

"He is a part of the team so he is likely to play," MCA secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar told reporters. Notably, the MCA has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with Cricket Uganda.

"He is the Indian captain and whenever he plays against any team, it is a morale-booster for any team and it is going to be a good cricket experience," Khanvilkar added.

MCA Official On Partnership With Uganda

"Under the leadership of Mr Jay Shah, he had requested us to host the Uganda cricket team and we thought it is a great privilege to host a national team here in Mumbai and for our Mumbai players to get an exposure against a national team," Naik said.

"The Uganda team can come and play matches here, and whenever MCA needs to go and play in that country during our season or even when we have our off season," he added.

Notably, Uganda team will play three more matches against Mumbai T20 league teams.
