Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) lock horns in the Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2026 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, with an aim to secure a spot in the final against the defending champions, RCB.
However, since the GT vs RR toss itself, the match has witnessed multiple fascinating turns of events.
Earlier controversy erupted at the toss, that left GT captain, Shubman Gill visibly frustrated. Very soon, Rajasthan’s veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja surprisingly walked off the field. The incident surprised one and all because Jadeja was looking in phenomenal touch and was batting magnificently.
Why did Ravindra Jadeja suddenly walk off the field?
At the time when Ravindra Jadeja came in to bat, Rajasthan Royals were reeling at 9 for 2 in the very second over of the innings.
For the unversed, earlier in the innings, he had called for an early timeout, and the physio attended to him during the break for a potential elbow injury. After a quick checkup, the former CSK all-rounder continued to bat.
However, he walked off the field very soon and was declared retired hurt.
The partnership between Jadeja and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was blossoming, but a setback came for the Royals. Moreover, RR captain Riyan Parag walked in next for RR.
This makes him the very first player to be retired hurt in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs.
Nonetheless, after a breather, in the 13 over, the all-rounder had to return back after the Royals lost wickets in short intervals.
Jadeja joins the long list of players retired hurt in IPL 2026
Notably, this isn’t the first time a player has retired hurt in the IPL 2026.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma retired hurt during his side’s clash against the defending champions, RCB, at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rohit appeared to have hurt his hamstring while batting and had received medical attention on the field in the sixth over of MI’s chase. After a brief break, the 39-year-old had his thigh strapped and attempted to continue batting.
But his effort lasted just a delivery as he decided to retire hurt, while batting on 19 from 13 deliveries. Following this injury, Rohit missed five consecutive matches for MI before making a strong comeback.

Apart from that, Lucknow Super Giants' former captain Rishabh Pant also retired hurt vs RCB on April 15, 2026.
After a series of dot balls at the start of LSG’s innings, Pant walked off the field. Notably, out of those balls, one hit his body hard enough, forcing him into a fairly long break and a consultation with the physio.
In action, Josh Hazlewood’s feisty short ball hit Pant’s unprotected left elbow as he looked to pull it. Distraught with the pain, Rishabh Pant was eventually retired hurt in the fifth over of LSG’s innings.
Lastly, Sai Sudharsan was also retired hurt during the IPL 2026 season. The Gujarat Titans batter sustained a painful blow to his left elbow from a Kartik Tyagi delivery during their match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on May 16, 2026.
