Since the PSL entered the franchise T20 league arena, it has consistently viewed the IPL as its primary competitor despite the Indian league’s global dominance. As the PSL 2026 is set to go on the big stage, Multan Sultan owner’s shocking claim on England players turned heads.
In 2026, global players are divided as both tournaments are set to clash, leaving them with a difficult choice. Amidst this, the Multan Sultan owner said England players would leave IPL to play PSL even for half the money.
IPL vs PSL clash leaves players stuck in a tough choice
Introducing the franchise leagues into the cricketing arena was a revolution as the IPL emerged as the global T20 giant. After the IPL showcased the grandeur of cricket blending with entertainment, other cricketing nations followed the trend, including Pakistan, with the launch of the PSL.
In the cricket world, the India-Pakistan rivalry has always entertained the fans, but the Pakistani audience took it to another level while taking the rivalry between the PSL and IPL. As both tournaments gear up for a blockbuster 2026 season, a clash in schedules has intensified the rivalry even more.

As fans are enjoying the thrills, the problem is much bigger for the global stars who participate in both. Though the foreign players were seen prioritizing the IPL, the PSL fell short in many ways.
For the upcoming season, some foreign stars prioritize the PSL, but the majority of the global stars joined the PSL after being unsold in the IPL. However, the clash between the two franchise tournaments has left many players facing a tough choice.
Multan Sultans owner’s bold statement turns heads
As the PSL 2026 arrives in an even grander format with two new teams added, the tournament promises fiercer competition. With several big names from global cricket set to feature, their participation has given a huge boost to the excitement.
But before the PSL 2026 goes on the big stage, the Multan Sultans owner, Gohar Khan, turned heads with a bizarre claim. While speaking in an interaction, he said that England players are ready to ditch the IPL to play in the PSL, even for half the money.
“I have some really good friends in the England team. If I tell them to leave the IPL and play in the PSL instead, they will do it even if I give them only half the money,” Khan said.
Big claims fade fast as Multan Sultans pick no English players
The big claim by the Multan Sultan owner, Gohar Khan, turned out to be the biggest backfire on himself as the cricket world saw many instances when global players prioritized IPL over PSL. Ironically, his own words turned into a mockery as Multan Sultans’ PSL 2026 squad does not feature a single player from England.
The five Australian players and two South African stars are all set to feature in the tournament. Adding to this, some of the biggest names of Pakistan cricket like Salman Mirza, Shahibzada Farhan, Mohammad Nawaz, and others are all set to feature in the tournament.
