Babar Azam was excluded from the Pakistan squad for the ongoing ODI series in Bangladesh. While several fans and cricket experts attributed Babar’s snub to his lack of form and recent struggles, PCB Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed made an explosive claim that the legendary batter was dropped owing to an injury.
As it turned out, Javed’s explanation seemingly raised even more eyebrows, considering the 31-year-old showed no signs of injury or any physical struggle during the recently concluded 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The matter took another intriguing turn after Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir made a startling claim about the injury status of a Pakistani cricketer.
Mohammad Amir exposes PCB’s injury claims for Babar Azam
Earlier this week, PCB official Aaqib Javed claimed that Babar Azam was dropped from the Pakistan squad for the ODI series in Bangladesh owing to his injury. Javed added that the same injury is also preventing the legendary batter from playing the National T20 Cup 2026 in Pakistan.

The PCB also stated that fellow senior top-order batter Fakhar Zaman and left-arm fast bowler Salman Mirza were also dropped from the squad owing to their respective injuries.
Former Pakistan paceman Mohammad Amir has now made an explosive claim that the PCB has faked at least one player injury, and that player is “not Fakhar Zaman”. During a recent interaction, he said “I have heard that a player's injury has been Faked by the PCB and he's not Fakhar Zaman.”
While Mohammad Amir refrained from naming the player directly, his remarks strongly hinted that he could be referring to Babar Azam. However, Amir’s remarks could now land him in trouble, as the PCB might consider taking disciplinary action against the former pacer.
It is also possible that the PCB official may have simply mistaken about Babar’s injury, which could also prompt the board to look into the matter and take action over the controversy.
Babar Azam wrecks PCB after injury claims
Shortly after Aaqib Javed’s claims, Babar himself took to social media and took a dig at the PCB official over the “injury” remark. The legendary Pakistan batter posted an edited picture of himself with slightly twisted legs in a bid to mock Javed’s fitness claims.
The picture soon went viral among the Pakistan cricket fraternity, with several fans linking it with Aaqib’s questionable remarks on the cricketer’s snub from the ODI series in Bangladesh.
Babar Azam’s form still a concern for Pakistan
Injury or not, Babar Azam is still struggling for runs in international cricket. While the 31-year-old recently plundered a century in the ODI series against Sri Lanka last November, the cricketer underwent a below par T20 World Cup 2026 campaign in the island nation.
The prolific right-handed batter managed to aggregate just 91 runs in four innings at a dismal average of 22.75 and a strike rate of 112.34. He was even dropped from the team’s playing XI for their final Group 2 match against Sri Lanka.
