The PSL 2026 season has been struck with a major blow as yet another international star has pulled out of the competition. On February 2, the Lahore Qalandars franchise confirmed that Namibia all-rounder David Wiese will not be taking part this year owing to personal commitments.

Wiese has been a part of the Qalandars group since the 2019 edition of the tournament. The former international cricketer has even lifted the coveted Pakistan Super League trophy three times with the Qalandars, in the years 2022, 2023 and 2025.

David Wiese pulls out of PSL 2026 for defending champions

David Wiese has pulled out of the upcoming PSL 2026 season owing to “unforeseen circumstances and important family commitments” as confirmed by the cricketer himself on social media. The 40-year-old further shared his strong bond with the Qalandars, and vowed to make his return to the team next year.

David Wiese also fondly added that he will continue to cheer for his Lahore Qalandars teammates back home.

The Lahore Qalandars franchise expressed its full support towards David Wiese as the latter took time off the field to be with his family.

Lahore Qalandars owner Sameen Rana praised Wiese for his long-standing association with the franchise. Apart from expressing his admiration for Wiese’s all-round belligerence, the owner also credited the former Namibia cricketer for influencing the younger players in the team.

Overseas stars continue to pull out of Pakistan Super League 2026

A few days ago, explosive England batter and white-ball captain Harry Brook also pulled out of the PSL 2026 season. Lahore Qalandars owner Sameer Rana confirmed the same after the latter failed to acquire Brook via a direct signing.

Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis was ruled out of the PSL 2026 season last month owing to the injury he sustained in South Africa during SA20 2026. The cricketer suffered a ligament tear on his right thumb, and he subsequently required surgical repair.

As per recent reports, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has also pulled out of Pakistan Super League 2026 to prfioritize his fitness. The cricketer is currently bracing himself to play the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

A look at David Wiese’s decorated PSL career

David Wiese’s late pull out from PSL 2026 will surely dent Lahore Qalandars’ prospects this season. A veteran of over 400 T20 matches, Wiese has played 54 of them for the Qalandars in PSL alone.

The Namibia cricketer made his PSL debut back in 2018 for the Karachi Kings before he was roped in by the Qalandars for the following season. In 46 PSL innings with the bat, the seasoned pro has aggregated 629 runs at a blistering strike rate of 161.69.

David Wiese has also taken 38 wickets with the ball in 53 innings at an average of 32.02. He was part of the PSL-winning Lahore Qalandars team in 2022, 2023 and 2025, i.e., thrice in the last four editions of the tournament.
