Prasidh Krishna to undergo more fitness Tests [Source: AFP]
India pacer Prasidh Krishna's availability for the New Zealand tour continues to remain under the scanner, after the bowler got injured during the ODI series against West Indies earlier in September. Krishna was named in Karnataka's Ranji Trophy squad just days after his injury, but did not feature in any of the first three round of matches.
Currently, the tall fast bowler is at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, rehabilitating and getting ready for the long formats of the New Zealand tour, but the medical team are said to be skeptical of his participation.
Prasidh Krishna's New Zealand tour in doubt
Almost a month has passed since Krishna's injury in the West Indies series and the 30-year-old is also back bowling in the training. However, according to Nitin Srivastava of India Today, the medical team are assessing Prasidh's progress with extra caution and there is a possibility that they are not convinced with what they are seeing.
Three weeks after the bowler got injured, he underwent match simulations on October 22 and 24. With the ODIs starting in just over a week, Prasidh has been asked to re-do the match siumulations on November 1 and 2 — with the first ODI scheduled on November 4.
There was an asterisk ahead of Prasidh's name in the squad for the first three ODIs of the series, but it was expected that he gets fit by the time the Test series begins.
Who can replace injured Prasidh Krishna in New Zealand tour?
As per the original squads, Prasidh Krishna is a part of the first three ODI matches, followed by two Tests. India is travelling with a big contingent, including a seperate squad for the final two ODIs, where Test starters are rested, as well as an India A team, playing three unofficial Tests.
If Krishna is unable to recover in time, there could be a possibility that someone like Auqib Nabi, or Yash Thakur or Gurnoor Brar replace him in these squads. All three will be in New Zealand and are in the scheme of things in recent months.
