Abhishek Sharma has given a cheeky reply to his mentor and guru, Yuvraj Singh, after the former India all-rounder jokingly challenged him to score a half-century in just 12 balls.
The stylish opener produced a stunning performance against New Zealand in the third T20I in Wellington. He made 113 runs off 38 balls at a strike rate of 297.37.
After the match, Abhishek was asked about Yuvraj Singh's playful remark. The young opener laughed and said that scoring 50 runs in just 12 balls was not as easy as it looked.
Abhishek Sharma Responds To Yuvraj Singh's Playful Dig
Yuvraj Singh congratulated Abhishek Sharma on his match-winning innings in the IND vs NZ 3rd T20I but did not miss the chance to tease his student.
Taking to X shortly after the match, Yuvraj wrote, "You still can’t get 50 off 12, can you @OfficialAbhi04! Looks like two left-handers batting in their backyard!"
The comment referred to Yuvraj Singh's famous performance against England in the 2007 T20I World Cup.
Abhishek Sharma responded to the comment during the post-match presentation.
He said - "I mean, I've said this before as well. I don't know what cricket he was playing back at that time, but it's not that easy at all. And I would say if any batter wants to go there and bat like that, it's not easy at all. You can't just go and score 50 off 12 balls. It just happens once in a while," Abhishek told the broadcasters.
"As a batter, we don't go for that milestone. We always want to win the game for the team, especially Vaibhav. He's here. So that was the plan, and that's what we want to take throughout the series as well, and it went well," he added.
